Hymnus
Splendor patérnæ glóriæ, de luce lucem próferens, lux lucis et fons lúminis, diem dies illúminans,
O Spendor of God’s glory bright, O Thou that bringest light from light, O Light of Light, light’s Living Spring, O Day, all days illumining.
Verúsque sol, illábere micans nitóre pérpeti, iubárque Sancti Spíritus infúnde nostris sénsibus.
O Thou true Sun, on us Thy glance Let fall in royal radiance, The Spirit’s sanctifying beam Upon our earthly senses stream.
Votis vocémus et Patrem, Patrem perénnis glóriæ, Patrem poténtis grátiæ, culpam reléget lúbricam.
Infórmet actus strénuos, dentem retúndat ínvidi, casus secúndet ásperos, donet geréndi grátiam.
Mentem gubérnet et regat casto, fidéli córpore; fides calóre férveat, fraudis venéna nésciat.
Christúsque nobis sit cibus, potúsque noster sit fides; læti bibámus sóbriam ebrietátem Spíritus.
And Christ to us for food shall be, From Him our drink that welleth free, The Spirit’s wine, that maketh whole, And mocking not, exalts the soul.
Lætus dies hic tránseat; pudor sit ut dilúculum, fides velut merídies, crepúsculum mens nésciat.
Rejoicing may this day go hence, Like virgin dawn our innocence, Like fiery noon our faith appear, Nor know the gloom of twilight drear.
Auróra cursus próvehit; Auróra totus pródeat, in Patre totus Fílius et totus in Verbo Pater. Amen.

Psalmus 5
Psalm 5
Oratio matutina ad implorandum auxilium
Morning prayer for help
They who dwell in the Word will rejoice without end.
   Verba mea áuribus pércipe, Dómine; * intéllege gémitum meum.
   Give ear, O Lord, to my words, understand my cry.
   Inténde voci clamóris mei, * rex meus et Deus meus.
   Hearken to the voice of my prayer, O my King and my God.
   Quóniam ad te orábo, Dómine, mane exáudies vocem meam; * mane astábo tibi et exspectábo.
   For to thee will I pray: O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice. In the morning I will stand before thee, and will see:
   Quóniam non Deus volens iniquitátem tu es; neque habitábit iuxta te malígnus, * neque permanébunt iniústi ante óculos tuos.
   because thou art not a God that willest iniquity. Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.
   Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie. The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor.
   Ego autem in multitúdine misericórdiæ tuæ introíbo in domum tuam; * adorábo ad templum sanctum tuum in timóre tuo.
   But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy, I will come into thy house; I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.
   Dómine, deduc me in iustítia tua propter inimícos meos, * dírige in conspéctu meo viam tuam.
   Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.
   Quóniam non est in ore eórum véritas, * cor eórum fóvea;
   For there is no truth in their mouth: their heart is vain.
   sepúlcrum patens est guttur eórum, * mólliunt línguas suas.
   11 Their throat is an open sepulchre: they dealt deceitfully with their tongues:
   [Iúdica illos, Deus; décidant a cogitatiónibus suis; secúndum multitúdinem impietátum eórum expélle eos, * quóniam irritavérunt te, Dómine.]
   judge them, O God. Let them fall from their devices: according to the multitude of their wickednesses cast them out: for they have provoked thee, O Lord.
   Et omnes, qui sperant in te, læténtur, * in ætérnum exsúltent.
   But let all them be glad that hope in thee: they shall rejoice for ever,
   Obumbrábis eis, et gloriabúntur in te, * qui díligunt nomen tuum;
   and thou shalt dwell in them. And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee.
   quóniam tu benedíces iusto, Dómine, * quasi scuto, bona voluntáte coronábis eum.
   For thou wilt bless the just. O Lord, thou hast crowned us, as with a shield of thy good will.
   Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
   Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
   Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
   As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

   And to thee is praise: for all that is in heaven, and in earth, is thine: Thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art above all princes.

Canticum Evangelicum Lc 1, 68-79
Gospel canticle (Lk 1:68-79)
De Messia eiusque præcursore
The Messiah and his precursor
   Benedíctus ✠ Dóminus, Deus Israel, * quia visitávit et fecit redemptiónem plebi suæ
   Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people:
   et eréxit cornu salútis nobis * in domo David púeri sui,
   And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, in the house of David his servant:
   sicut locútus est per os sanctórum, * qui a sǽculo sunt, prophetárum eius,
   As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, who are from the beginning:
   salútem ex inimícis nostris * et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos;
   Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us:
   ad faciéndam misericórdiam cum pátribus nostris * et memorári testaménti sui sancti,
   To perform mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy testament,
   The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, that he would grant to us,
   That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear,
   in sanctitáte et iustítia coram ipso * ómnibus diébus nostris.
   In holiness and justice before him, all our days.
   And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:
   ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi eius * in remissiónem peccatórum eórum,
   To give knowledge of salvation to his people, unto the remission of their sins:
   per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri, * in quibus visitábit nos óriens ex alto,
   Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:
   illumináre his, qui in ténebris et in umbra mortis sedent, * ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.
   To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace.
Amen.

Pater noster
Pater noster, qui es in cælis:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
sanctificétur nomen tuum;
Hallowed be thy name.
advéniat regnum tuum;
Thy kingdom come.
fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie;
Give us this day our daily bread.
et dimítte nobis débita nostra,
And forgive us our trespasses,
sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris;
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem;
And lead us not into temptation:
sed líbera nos a malo.
But deliver us from evil.
   May Your grace inspire our action, Lord, and sustain it to the end, so that all our activities take their source in You and receive their completion from You.
   Dóminus vobíscum.

   r. Et cum spíritu tuo.

   Benedícat vos omnípotens Deus, Pater, ✠ et Fílius, et Spíritus Sanctus.

   r. Amen.

Vel alia formula benedictionis, sicut in Missa.
Et si fit dimissio, sequitur invitatio:
   v. Ite in pace. r.

Amen.
