Léctio sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum (17,14-20)
In illo témpore: Accéssit ad Iesum homo génibus provolútus ante eum et dicens: " Dómine, miserére fílii mei, quia lunáticus est et male pátitur; nam sæpe cadit in ignem et crebro in aquam. Et óbtuli eum discípulis tuis, et non potuérunt curáre eum ". Respóndens autem Iésus ait: " O generátio incrédula et pervérsa, quoúsque ero vobíscum? Úsquequo pátiar vos? Afférte huc illum ad me ". Et increpávit eum Iésus, et éxiit ab eo dæmónium, et curátus est puer ex illa hora. Tunc accessérunt discípuli ad Iésum secréto et dixérunt: " Quare nos non potúimus eícere illum? ". Ille autem dicit illis: " Propter módicam fidem vestram. Amen quippe dico vobis: Si habuéritis fidem sicut granum sinápis, dicétis monti huic: "Tránsi hinc illuc!", et transíbit, et nihil impossíbile erit vobis".
At that time, a man approached came to Jesus a man falling down upon his knees before him, saying: Lord have mercy upon my Son, for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for he falleth often into the fire, and often into the water. And I offered him to thy Disciples, and they could not cure him. Jesus answered and said: O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked him, and the devil went out of him, and the lad was cured from that hour. Then came the Disciples to Jesus secretly, and said: Why could we not cast him out? Jesus said to them, because of your incredulity: For, Amen I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Remove from thence thither, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you. But this kind is not cast out but by prayer and fasting.
