Léctio Epístolæ primæ beáti loannis apóstoli (3,22-4,6)
Caríssimi : quodcúmque petiérimus, accípimus ab eo, quóniam mandáta eíus custódimus et ea, quæ sunt plácita coram eo, fácimus. Et hoc est mandátum eíus, ut credámus nómini Fílii eíus Iésu Christi et diligámus altérutrum, sicut dedit mandátum nobis. Et, qui servat mandáta eíus, in ipso manet, et ipse in eo; et in hoc cognóscimus quóniam manet in nobis, ex Spíritu, quem nobis dedit. Caríssimi, nolíte omni spirítui crédere, sed probáte spíritus si ex Deo sint, quóniam multi pseudoprophétæ prodiérunt in mundum. In hoc cognoscítis Spíritum Dei: omnis spíritus, qui confitétur Iésum Christum in carne venísse, ex Deo est. Et omnis spíritus, qui non confitétur Iésum, ex Deo non est; et hoc est antichrísti, quod audístis quóniam venit, et nunc iam in mundo est. Vos ex Deo estis, filíoli, et vicístis eos, quóniam maíor est, qui in vobis est, quam qui in mundo. Ipsi ex mundo sunt; ídeo ex mundo loquúntur, et mundus eos audit. Nos ex Deo sumus. Qui cognóscit Deum, audit nos; qui non est ex Deo, non audit nos. Ex hoc cognóscimus Spíritum veritátis et spíritum erróris.
Beloved: whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments, and do those things which are pleasing before him. And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ: and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us. And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. MY dearest, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits if they be of God: because, many false prophets are gone out into the world. In this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit that confesseth Jesus Christ to have come in flesh, is of God: and every spirit that dissolveth Jesus, is not of God: and this is Antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh, and now he is in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome him. Because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore of the world they speak, and the world heareth them. We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us. He that is not of God, heareth us not. In this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
