PREFACE
De victoria crucis gloriosæ.
On the Victory of the Glorious Cross.
Vere dignum et iustum est, æquum et salutáre, nos tibi semper et ubíque grátias ágere: Dómine, sancte Pater, omnípotens, ætérne Deus:
Verily, it is fitting and right, just and salutary, for us to give thee thanks evermore and everywhere: Lord, Holy Father, eternal and almighty God:
Qui salútem humáni géneris in ligno crucis constituísti, ut unde mors oriebátur, inde vita resúrgeret; et, qui in ligno vincébat, in ligno quoque vincerétur: per Christum Dóminum nostrum.
Thou placed the salvation of humankind in the wood of the Cross: so that, in the very place where death was born, life might spring forth; and so that he who conquered through the wood might also be conquered by the wood—through Christ our Lord.
Per quem maiestátem tuam laudant Angeli, adórant Dominatiónes, tremunt Potestátes. Cæli cælorúmque Virtútes, ac beáta Séraphim, sócia exsultatióne concélebrant.
Through Him, the angels praise Thy glory, the principalities worship Thou, and the powers tremble; the heavens, their virtues, and the holy seraphim celebrate Thou, united in shared joy.
Cum quibus et nostras voces ut admítti iúbeas, deprecámur, súpplici confessióne dicéntes:
Let us join our voices with theirs in humbly singing Thy praises, saying:
