Ut quid, Dómine, stas a longe, * abscóndis te in opportunitátibus, in tribulatióne?
Why, O Lord, hast thou retired afar off? why dost thou slight us in our wants, in the time of trouble?
Dum supérbit, ímpius inséquitur páuperem; * comprehendántur in consíliis, quæ cógitant.
Whilst the wicked man is proud, the poor is set on fire: they are caught in the counsels which they devise.
Quóniam gloriátur peccátor in desidériis ánimæ suæ, * et avárus sibi benedícit.
For the sinner is praised in the desires of his soul: and the unjust man is blessed.
Spernit Dóminum peccátor in arrogántia sua: * Non requíret, non est Deus."
The sinner hath provoked the Lord, according to the multitude of his wrath he will not seek him:

Arise, O Lord God, let thy hand be exalted: forget not the poor.

Wherefore hath the wicked provoked God? for he hath said in his heart: He will not require it.
Vidísti: † tu labórem et dolórem consíderas, * ut tradas eos in manus tuas.
Thou seest it, for thou considerest labour and sorrow: that thou mayst deliver them into thy hands.

For us poor, the Father deigned to send His Son (S. Augustine)
Salvum me fac, Dómine, quóniam defécit sanctus, * quóniam deminúti sunt fidéles a fíliis hóminum.
Save me, O Lord, for there is now no saint: truths are decayed from among the children of men.
Vana locúti sunt unusquísque ad próximum suum; * in lábiis dolósis, in dúplici corde locúti sunt.
They have spoken vain things every one to his neighbour: with deceitful lips, and with a double heart have they spoken.
Dispérdat Dóminus univérsa lábia dolósa * et linguam magníloquam.
May the Lord destroy all deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things.
Qui dixérunt: "Lingua nostra magnificábimur, † lábia nostra a nobis sunt; * quis noster dóminus est?"
