2 Chr 24,18-22
At that time: they forsook the temple of our Lord the God of their fathers, and served groves, and sculptiles, & there came wrath against Juda, and Jerusalem for this sin. And he sent them Prophets, that they should return to our Lord, whom, protesting, they would not hear. The spirit of God therefore invested Zacharias the son of Joiada the Priest, and he stood in the sight of the people, and said to them: Thus saith our Lord God: Why transgress you the precept of our Lord, which thing shall not profit you, and have forsaken our Lord, that he should forsake you? Who being gathered against him, they threw stones according to the king's commandment, in the court of the house of our Lord. And Joas the king did not remember the mercy, that Joiada his father had done with him, but he killed his son. Who when he died, said: Our Lord see, and require it.

Tribulátio an angústia an persecútio an fames an núditas an perículum an gládius?

At that time, Jesus said to His Apostles: take heed of men. For they will deliver you up in Councils, and in their Synagogues they will scourge you. And to presidents and to kings shall you be led for my sake, in testimony to them and the Gentiles. But when they shall deliver you up, take no thought how or what to speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what to speak. For it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you. The brother also shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the Son: and the children shall rise up against the parents, and shall work their death, and you shall be odious to all men for my name: but he that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved.

PRÆFATIO II DE SANCTIS MARTYRIBUS

De mirabilibus Dei in martyrum victoria
God's Wonders in the Martyrs' Victory
It is verily right and just, fair and salutary, to give thee thanks evermore and everywhere: Lord, holy Father, eternal and almighty God:
for thee are glorified in the praise of Thy saints, and everything related to their passion is the wondrous work of Thy power: it is Thou who graciously grant the fervor of this faith, Thou who inspire steadfast perseverance, Thou who bestow victory in battle, through Christ our Lord.
That is wherefore the heavenly and earthly creatures sing a new song unto thee as they worship Thou, and we, too, together with the entire host of angels, proclaim without end, saying:
