Thanksgiving for the liberation

Verbum misit Deus filiis Israel, annuntians pacem per Iesum Christum (Act 10,36).

God sent His word to the children of Israel, announcing peace through Jesus Christ.

Confitémini Dómino, quóniam bonus, * quóniam in sǽculum misericórdia eíus.

Praise the Lord, forasmuch as He is good and forasmuch as His mercy is eternal.

Dicant, qui redémpti sunt a Dómino, * quos redémit de manu adversárii

Let them say it those who have been redeemed by the Lord, those whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy

et de regiónibus congregávit eos, † a solis ortu et occásu, * ab aquilóne et mari.

and gathered from all countries, from the east and the west, from the north and from the sea.

Erravérunt in solitúdine, in inaquóso, * viam civitátis habitatiónis non invenérunt.

for He hath broken down the gates of brass, and broken the bolts of iron.

He hath taken them out of the way of their iniquity; for they had been humbled forasmuch as of their injustices.

Those who go down to sea in ships, and work on the vast waters,

these have seen the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the midst of the abyss.

Dixit et excitávit spíritum procéllæ, * et exaltáti sunt fluctus eíus.

He said, and the breath of the storm arose, and the waves of the sea were stirred up.

Ascéndunt usque ad cælos † et descéndunt usque ad abýssos; * ánima eórum in malis tabescébat.

They ascend to heaven, and descend unto the abyss; their souls fainted in the midst of their evils.

They were troubled and agitated like a drunken man, and all their wisdom was annihilated.

Et státuit procéllam eíus in auram, * et tacuérunt fluctus eíus.

He changed the storm into a light wind, and the waves of the sea subsided.

Et lætáti sunt, quia siluérunt, * et dedúxit eos in portum voluntátis eórum.

They rejoiced to behold them appeased, and God led them unto the port where they wanted to arrive.

Let them praise the Lord for His mercies, and for His wonders on behalf of the children of men.

et exáltent eum in ecclésia plebis * et in convéntu seniórum laudent eum.

Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people, and let them praise Him in the council of the elders.

Pósuit flúmina in desértum * et éxitus aquárum in sitim,

He hath turned the rivers into a desert, and the springs of water into parched soil,

terram fructíferam in salsúginem * a malítia inhabitántium in ea.

and the fertile land in salt plains, forasmuch as of the malice of its inhabitants.

Pósuit desértum in stagna aquárum * et terram sine aqua in éxitus aquárum.

He hath turned the deserts into sheets of water, and the arid land into running waters.

And He settled the hungry there, and they built a city to dwell in;

they have sown fields and planted vineyards, and gathered abundant fruit.

He blessed them, and they multiplied exceedingly; He did not allow their flocks to be diminished.

Et pauci facti sunt et vexáti sunt * a tribulatióne malórum et dolóre.

Then they were reduced to a few, and overwhelmed by the affliction of their evils and pain.

Effúdit contemptiónem super príncipes * et erráre fecit eos in desérto ínvio.

Contempt was poured out upon the princes, and He caused them to wander out of the way and into places without way.

Et suscépit páuperem de inópia * et pósuit sicut oves famílias.

And He helped the poor in their poverty and multiplied families like flocks.

Vidébunt recti et lætabúntur, * et omnis iníquitas oppilábit os suum.

The righteous will behold it and rejoice, and iniquity will have to shut its mouths.

Quis sápiens, et custódiet hæc * et intélleget misericórdias Dómini?.

Who is wise to take heed of these things, and to understand the mercies of the Lord?

Domínicæ Incarnatiónis et nostræ reparatiónis, quod fides fidélium hodiérna die récolit, sacraméntum, licet granditáte sui et excelléntia humánum et angélicum excédat intelléctum, tamen quidquid de eódem pótuit vel débuit comprehéndere et scire electórum devótio, totum per antíquos patres, Véteris vidélicet Testaménti patriárchas et vates dispósuit nuntiáre, et per apóstolos et evangelístas, idóneos novæ legis minístros, dignáta est enarráre divínæ dignatiónis Maiéstas.
