This day the first of days was made, When God in light the world arrayed; Or when His Word arose again, And, conquering death, gave life to men.
Pulsis procul torpóribus, surgámus omnes ócius, et nocte quærámus pium, sicut Prophétam nóvimus.
Slumber and sloth drive far away; Earlier arise to greet the day; And ere its dawn in heaven unfold The heart's desire to God be told.
Nostras preces ut áudiat suámque dextram porrígat, et hic piátos sórdibus reddat polórum sédibus,
Unto our prayer that He attend, His all creating power extend, And still renew us, lest we miss Through earthly stain our heavenly bliss.
Ut, quique sacratíssimo huius diéi témpore horis quiétis psállimus, donis beátis múneret.
This is also what we ask of the Most Holy One. On this day, in moments of quiet, let us sing psalms, that He may grant us His blessed gifts.
