De Deo salvatore
To the saving God
Benedíctus Deus et Pater Dómini nostri Iesu Christi, * qui benedíxit nos in omni benedictióne spiritáli in cæléstibus in Christo,
Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with all kinds of spiritual blessings in heaven,
sicut elégit nos in ipso ante mundi constitutiónem, † ut essémus sancti et immaculáti * in conspéctu eius in caritáte,
it is in Him that He chose us even before the creation of the world, so that we might be holy and immaculate before Him in charity,
qui prædestinávit nos in adoptiónem filiórum † per Iesum Christum in ipsum, * secúndum beneplácitum voluntátis suæ,
having in His love predestined to be His adopted sons through Jesus Christ, according to His free will,
in laudem glóriæ grátiæ suæ, * in qua gratificávit nos in Dilécto,
thus making the glory of His grace shine forth, by which He hath made us pleasing in His sight in His beloved [Son].
in quo habémus redemptiónem per sánguinem eius, * remissiónem peccatórum,
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins,
secúndum divítias grátiæ eius, † qua superabundávit in nobis * in omni sapiéntia et prudéntia,
according unto the riches of His grace, which God has poured out abundantly upon us in all wisdom and understanding,
notum fáciens nobis mystérium voluntátis suæ, * secúndum beneplácitum eius,
by making known unto us the mystery of His will, according unto the free purpose which His goodness had set for Himself,
quod propósuit in eo, * in dispensatiónem plenitúdinis témporum:
to realize it when the fullness of time would be accomplished:
recapituláre ómnia in Christo, * quæ in cælis et quæ in terra.
namely, to gather together all things in Christ Jesus, those which are in heaven and those which are on earth.
