The Power of the Cross
Sequens præfatio dicitur infra hebdomadam quintam Quadragesimæ, et in Missis de mysteriis Crucis et Passionis Domini.
The following preface is recited during the fifth week of Lent and at Masses celebrating the mystery of the Cross and the Passion of the Lord.
Vere dignum et iustum est, æquum et salutáre, nos tibi semper et ubíque grátias ágere: Dómine, sancte Pater, omnípotens ætérne Deus:
Verily, it is right and just, equitable and beneficial for us, evermore and everywhere, to give thee thanks: Eternal and Almighty God:
Quia per Fílii tui salutíferam passiónem sensum confiténdæ tuæ maiestátis totus mundus accépit, dum ineffábili crucis poténtia iudícium mundi et potéstas émicat Crucifíxi.
For in the saving passion of Thy Son, the entire universe receives the proclamation of Thy majesty, and, through the ineffable power of the cross, the judgment of the world and the power of the Crucified One.
Unde et nos, Dómine, cum Angelis et Sanctis univérsis, tibi confitémur, in exsultatióne dicéntes:
Wherefore, Lord, together with the angels and all the saints, we acclaim Thou, saying with joy:
