Dum médium siléntium tenérent ómnia, et nox in suo cursu médium iter habéret, omnípotens sermo tuus, Dómine, de cælis a regálibus sédibus venit. Ps. Gloria Patri.
WHILE all things were in quiet silence, and the night was in the midst of her course, Thine almighty Word, O Lord, leaped down from heaven from Thy royal throne. Ps. The Lord hath reigned, He is clothed with beauty: the Lord is clothed with strength, and hath girded Himself. Glory be to the Father.

Deus, qui pópulo tuo, Unigéniti tui nativitáte, redemptiónis efféctum mirabíliter inchoásti, † ita, quǽsumus, fídei fámulis tuis tríbue firmitátem, * ut usque ad promíssum glóriæ prǽmium, ipso gubernánte, pervéniant. Qui tecum.
God, who has wonderfully begun the effect of redemption for Thy people by the birth of Thy only Son, grant, we ask Thou, the steadfastness of faith to Thy servants, so that they may attain, under His guidance, unto the reward of the promised glory.
   Lectio I

Beloved: Who is a liar, but he which denieth that Jesus is Christ? This is Antichrist which denieth the Father and the Son. Every one that denieth the Son, neither hath he the Father. He that confesseth the Son, hath the Father also. You, that which you have heard from the beginning, let it abide in you. If that abide in you which you have heard from the beginning, you also shall abide in the Son & the Father. And this is the promise which he promised us, life everlasting. These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you. And you, the unction which you have received from him, let it abide in you. And you have no need that any man teach you: but as his unction teacheth you of all things, and it is true, and it is no lie. And as it hath taught you, abide in him. And now little children abide in him: that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be confounded of him in his coming.
   Verbum Dómini. r. Deo grátias.
Word of the Lord. r. Let us give thanks to God.

Léctio sancti Evangélii secundum Ioánnem (1, 19-28)

   r. Glória tibi Dómine.
   r. Glory be to Thee, O Lord..
This is John's testimony, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem Priests and Levites to him, that they should ask him, who art thou? And he confessed, and did not deny: and he confessed, That I am not Christ. And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elias? And he said: I am not. Art thou the Prophet? And he answered: No. They said therefore unto him: Who art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? what sayest thou of thyself? He said: I am the voice of one crying in the desert, make straight the way of our Lord, as Esaie the Prophet said. And they that were sent were of the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said to him: Why then doest thou baptize, if thou be not Christ, nor Elias, nor the Prophet? John answered them, saying: I baptize in water; but there hath stood in the midst of you whom you know not. The same is he that shall come after me, that is made before me; whose latchet of his shoe I am not worthy to loose. These things were done in Bethania beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Verbum Dómini. r. Laus tibi, Christe.

   De Christo luce.
   The Light of Christ
Verily, it is worthy and just, equitable and salutary, for us, evermore and everywhere to give thee thanks: Eternal and Almighty God :
Quia per incarnáti Verbi mystérium nova mentis nostræ óculis lux tuæ claritátis infúlsit: ut, dum visibíliter Deum cognóscimus, per hunc in invisibílium amórem rapiámur.
For through the mystery of the Incarnate Word, a new ray of Thy light has shone in the eyes of our soul; so that, knowing God in a visible form, we are drawn by Him into the love of invisible things.
That is wherefore, together with the Angels and Archangels, the Thrones and Dominions, and the entire host of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, saying without ceasing
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dóminus Deus Sábaoth...
