Príncipes persecúti sunt me gratis, * et a verbis tuis formidávit cor meum.

Princes have persecuted me without cause: and my heart hath been in awe of thy words.

Lætábor ego super elóquia tua, * sicut qui invénit spólia multa.

I will rejoice at thy words, as one that hath found great spoil.

Mendácium ódio hábui et abominátus sum; * legem autem tuam diléxi.

I have hated and abhorred iniquity; but I have loved thy law.

Sépties in die laudem dixi tibi * super iudícia iustítiæ tuæ.

Seven times a day I have given praise to thee, for the judgments of thy justice.

The joy of fraternal harmony

Diligamus nos invicem, quia caritas ex Deo est (1 Io 4, 7).

Let us love one another, for love comes from God (1 Io 4, 7).

Ecce quam bonum et quam iucúndum * habitáre fratres in unum:

Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity:

sicut unguéntum óptimum in cápite, † quod descéndit in barbam, barbam Aaron, * quod descéndit in oram vestiménti eius;

Like the precious ointment on the head, that ran down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron,

Tu es refugium meum

You are my refuge

Filius hominis traditur in manus peccatorum (Mt 26, 45).

The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of sinners (Mt 26:45).

Eripe me, Dómine, ab hómine malo, * a viro violéntiæ serva me.

Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: rescue me from the unjust man.

Qui cogitavérunt mala in corde, * tota die constituébant prœ́lia.

Who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all the day long they designed battles.

Acuérunt línguas suas sicut serpéntis, * venénum áspidum sub lábiis eórum.

They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent: the venom of asps is under their lips.

Custódi me, Dómine, de manu peccatóris † et a viro violéntiæ serva me, * qui cogitavérunt supplantáre gressus meos.

Keep me, O Lord, from the hand of the wicked: and from unjust men deliver me, who have proposed to supplant my steps:

Abscondérunt supérbi láqueum mihi † et funes extendérunt in rete, * iuxta iter offendícula posuérunt mihi.

the proud have hidden a net for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare: * they have laid for me a stumbling block by the wayside.

Dixi Dómino: «Deus meus es tu; * áuribus pércipe, Dómine, vocem deprecatiónis meæ».

I said to the Lord: Thou art my God: hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication.

Dómine, Dómine, virtus salútis meæ, * obumbrásti caput meum in die belli.

O Lord, Lord, the strength of my salvation: thou hast overshadowed my head in the day of battle.

Ne concédas, Dómine, desidéria ímpii; * consília eius ne perfícias.

Give me not up, O Lord, from my desire to the wicked: they have plotted against me; do not thou forsake me, lest they should triumph.

[Exáltant caput, qui circúmdant me; * malítia labiórum ipsórum opériat eos.

The head of them compassing me about: the labour of their lips shall overwhelm them.

Cadant super eos carbónes ignis, * in fóveas deícias eos, et non exsúrgant.

Burning coals shall fall upon them; thou wilt cast them down into the fire: in miseries they shall not be able to stand.

Vir linguósus non firmábitur in terra, * virum violéntiæ mala cápient in intéritu. ]

A man full of tongue shall not be established in the earth: evil shall catch the unjust man unto destruction.

I know that the Lord will do justice to the needy, and will revenge the poor.
