Warning: the monastic cursus is still under construction. There may still be many errors.
Amen.
Open my mouth, Lord, that it may bless Thy Holy Name, and cleanse my heart also from every vain, evil, and foreign thought. Enlighten my understanding, inflame my love, so that I may recite this office with respect, attention, and devotion, and merit to be heard in the presence of Thy divine majesty. Through Christ our Lord. r. Amen.

Psalm 3
  Dominus protector meus
The Lord is my protector
Dormivit et somnum cepit et resurrexit, quoniam Dominus suscepit eum (S. Irenæus).
He lay down and fell asleep, and He rose again because the Lord sustained Him.
Dómine, quid multiplicáti sunt, qui tríbulant me? * Multi insúrgunt advérsum me,
O Lord, why are they multiplied that afflict me? * Many are they who rise up against me.
multi dicunt ánimæ meæ: * «Non est salus ipsi in Deo».
Many say to my soul: * “There is no salvation for him in his God.”
But thou, O Lord, art my protector, * my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
I have cried to the Lord with my voice, * and he hath heard me from his holy mountain.
Ego obdormívi et soporátus sum,> * exsurréxi, quia Dóminus suscépit me.
I have slept and have taken my rest, * and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.
  Non timébo mília pópuli circumdántis me. * Exsúrge, Dómine, salvum me fac, Deus meus;
I will not fear thousands of the people that surround me. * Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God.
quóniam tu percussísti in maxíllam omnes adversántes mihi, * dentes peccatórum contrivísti.
For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause; * thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.
Salvation is of the Lord, * and thy blessing is upon thy people.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

Psalm 45 (46)
  Deus refugium et virtus
God, refuge and strength
He will be called Emmanuel, which means God With Us (Mt 1:23).
God is our refuge and our strength, a help that we evermore find in tribulation.
Wherefore we are not afraid if the earth is disturbed, if the mountains sink into the heart of the ocean.
Its waters roared and were agitated, the mountains were shaken by its power.
Flúminis rivi lætíficant civitátem Dei, * sancta tabernácula Altíssimi.
A river rejoices the city of God with its abundant streams, the Most High has sanctified his tabernacle.
God is in her midst, she is immovable; at dawn, God comes to his aid:
Fremuérunt gentes, commóta sunt regna; * dedit vocem suam, liquefácta est terra.
Nations are agitated, kingdoms are shaken; He maketh his voice heard and the earth melts with terror.
Dóminus virtútum nobíscum, * refúgium nobis Deus Iacob.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is a citadel for us.
Veníte et vidéte ópera Dómini, * quæ pósuit prodígia super terram.
Come, behold the works of the Lord, the wonders He hath wrought on earth!
He hath stopped wars unto the ends of the earth, He hath broken the bow, He hath broken the spear, and He shall burn the shields with fire.
Vacáte et vidéte quóniam ego sum Deus: * exaltábor in géntibus et exaltábor in terra.
Stop and recognize that I am God, I will rule over the nations, I will rule over the earth.
Dóminus virtútum nobíscum, * refúgium nobis Deus Iacob.
the Lord of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is a refuge for us.

Psalm 46 (47)
  Dominus universorum rex
The Lord is king of the universe
He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and His reign will have no end.
Omnes gentes, pláudite mánibus, * iubiláte Deo in voce exsultatiónis,
All of thee, peoples, clap thy hands, praise God with shouts of joy,
quóniam Dóminus Altíssimus, terríbilis, * rex magnus super omnem terram.
for the Lord is most high, fearful, great king over all the earth.
Subiécit pópulos nobis * et gentes sub pédibus nostris.
He subjugates the peoples unto us, He puts the nations under our feet.
Elégit nobis hereditátem nostram, * glóriam Iacob, quem diléxit.
He chooses for us our inheritance, the glory of Jacob, His beloved.
Ascéndit Deus in iúbilo, * et Dóminus in voce tubæ.
God ascends in joy; The Lord, unto the sound of the trumpet.
Psállite Deo, psállite; * psállite regi nostro, psállite.
Sing to God, sing; sing to our King, sing.
Quóniam rex omnis terræ Deus, * psállite sapiénter.
For God is king of all the earth, sing a song of praise.
Regnávit Deus super gentes, * Deus sedet super sedem sanctam suam.
God rules over the nations, He sits on His holy throne.
The princes of the peoples come together to form a people of the God of Abraham,

  Gratiarum actio pro populi salute
Thanksgiving for the salvation of the people
Sustulit me in spiritu super montem magnum... et ostendit mihi civitatem sanctam Ierusalem (Ap 21,10).
He took me in the Spirit to a great mountain... And he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem (Rev 21:10).
Magnus Dóminus et laudábilis nimis * in civitáte Dei nostri.
The Lord is great, He is the object of all praise, in the city of our God,
Mons sanctus eius collis speciósus, * exsultátio univérsæ terræ.
His holy mountain rises gracefully, the joy of the whole earth.
Mons Sion, extréma aquilónis, * cívitas regis magni.
Mount Zion, at the northern extremities, the city of the great king.
God, in his palaces, has made Himself known as a refuge.
Quóniam ecce reges congregáti sunt, * convenérunt in unum.
For behold, the kings had gathered together, and together they had come forward.
  Ipsi cum vidérunt, sic admiráti sunt, * conturbáti sunt, diffugérunt;
  They saw, suddenly they were stupefied, distraught, they fled;
illic tremor apprehéndit eos, * dolóres ut parturiéntis.
there a trembling seized them, a pain like that of a woman who gives birth.
In spíritu oriéntis * cónteres naves Tharsis.
With the east wind Thou break the ships of Tharsis.
Sicut audívimus, sic vídimus in civitáte Dómini virtútum, in civitáte Dei nostri; * Deus fundávit eam in ætérnum.
What we had heard we saw in the city of the Lord of hosts; in the city of our God: God establishes it forevermore.
Recogitámus, Deus, misericórdiam tuam * in médio templi tui.
O God, we keep in remembrance Thy goodness in the midst of Thy temple.
Secúndum nomen tuum, Deus, sic et laus tua in fines terræ; * iustítia plena est déxtera tua.
As Thy name, O God, so Thy praise reaches unto the ends of the earth; Thy right hand is full of justice.
Lætétur mons Sion, et exsúltent fíliæ Iudæ * propter iudícia tua.
Let Mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah rejoice forasmuch as of Thy judgments.
Go through Zion and go around it; count its fortresses.
observe its rampart, examine its palaces, to tell it unto the future generation.
Quóniam hic est Deus, Deus noster in ætérnum et in sǽculum sǽculi; * ipse ducet nos in sǽcula.
This is God who is our God forevermore and evermore; He shall be our guide in all ages.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

  Vanitas divitiarum
Vanity of riches
Dives difficile intrabit in regnum cælorum (Mt 19, 23).
It's hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven (Mt 19:23).
Audíte hæc, omnes gentes, * áuribus percípite, omnes, qui habitátis orbem:
Hearken unto this, all of thee, O peoples; give ears, all thou inhabitants of the world,
quique húmiles et viri nóbiles, * simul in unum dives et pauper!
men of the common and men of status, rich and poor together.
Os meum loquétur sapiéntiam * et meditátio cordis mei prudéntiam.
My mouth will utter wise words, and my heart has meaningful thoughts.
Inclinábo in parábolam aurem meam, * apériam in psaltério ænígma meum.
I give ear unto the sentences that God inspires in me; I explain my riddle unto the sound of the harp.
Cur timébo in diébus malis, * cum iníquitas supplantántium circúmdabit me?
Wherefore should I fear in the days of misfortune, when the iniquity of my persecutors besieges me?
Qui confídunt in virtúte sua * et in multitúdine divitiárum suárum gloriántur.
They who put their trust in their possessions, their glory in their great riches.
Etenim seípsum non rédimet homo; * non dabit Deo propitiatiónem suam.
A man cannot redeem his brother, nor can he pay God his ransom.
The redemption of their lives is too expensive; it is forevermore impossible, that he should live forevermore, and never behold the pit.
Et vidébit sapiéntes moriéntes; simul insípiens et stultus períbunt * et relínquent aliénis divítias suas.
No, he shall behold her; the wise die; the foolish and the stupid also perish, leaving others their possessions.
Sepúlcra eórum domus illórum in ætérnum; tabernácula eórum in progéniem et progéniem, * etsi vocavérunt nomínibus suis terras suas.
They imagine that their houses will be eternal; that their dwellings shall subsist from age to age, and they give their names to their domains.
But, even in his splendour, man does not last; he is like beasts of burden that perish.
Hæc via illórum, quorum fidúcia in semetípsis, * et finis eórum, qui cómplacent in ore suo.
Such is their fate, to these men who are so confident, and to those who follow them in approving their speeches.
  Sicut oves in inférno pósiti sunt, * mors depáscet eos;
  Like a flock, they are driven to hell, death is their shepherd;
in the morning the upright men rule over them, and their shadow will be consumed in hell, without any other dwelling.
Verúmtamen Deus rédimet ánimam meam, * de manu ínferi vere suscípiet me.
But God will redeem my soul from the power of hell, for he shall take me with him.
Fear not, wherefore, when a man grows rich, when the opulence of his house increases.
For he shall take naught with him when he dies, his opulence will not descend with him.
He may consider himself fortunate during his life; It is in vain to praise thou for the pleasures thou givest yourself:
tamen introíbit ad progéniem patrum suórum, * qui in ætérnum non vidébunt lumen.
Thou shalt go and join the generation of thy fathers, who will never behold the light anon.
Man, even in his splendour, does not understand, he is compared unto the beasts of burden that perish, and he hath become like them.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

  Vera in Dominum pietas
True goodness is in the Lord
I did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.
The God of gods, the Lord has spoken, and He hath called the earth from sunrise to sunset.
From Zion appears the radiance of His beauty. God will come visibly; * He, our God, and He shall not be silent.
ignis consúmens est in conspéctu eíus * et in circúitu eíus tempéstas válida.
Fire will be kindled in His presence, and a violent storm will surround Him.
Advocábit cælum desúrsum * et terram discérnere pópulum suum:
He shall call heaven and earth from on high, to discern His people.
“Congregáte mihi sanctos meos, * qui disposuérunt testaméntum meum in sacrifício.”
Gather before Him His saints, who seal His covenant with sacrifices.
And the heavens will declare His righteousness, for God is the judge.
“Audi, pópulus meus, et loquar, Israel, et testificábor advérsum te: * Deus, Deus tuus, ego sum.
Hearken, My people, and I will speak; Israel, and I will bear witness unto thee. I am God, thy God.
It is not for thy sacrifices that I will rebuke thou, for thy burnt offerings are evermore before Me.
  I will not take the calves of thy house, nor the goats of thy flocks;
Quóniam meæ sunt omnes feræ silvárum, * iumentórum mille in móntibus.
for all the beasts of the forest are mine, as well as the animals of the mountains, and the oxen.
I know all the birds of the air, and the beauty of the field is in My presence.
If I am hungry, I will not tell thee; for the universe is mine, with all that is in it.
Numquid manducábo carnes taurórum * aut sánguinem hircórum potábo?
Will I eat the flesh of the bulls? or shall I drink the blood of the goats?
  Ímmola Deo sacrifícium laudis * et redde Altíssimo vota tua;
Immolate to God a sacrifice of praise, and make thy vows unto the Most High.
et ínvoca me in die tribulatiónis: * éruam te, et honorificábis me.”
Then call upon Me in the day of tribulation: I will deliver thou, and thou shalt glorify Me.
Peccatóri autem dixit Deus: “quáre tu enárras præcépta mea * et assúmis testaméntum meum in os tuum?
But God said unto the sinner, Wherefore do thou list My statutes, and wherefore do thou hast My covenant constantly in thy mouth?
Tu vero odísti disciplínam * et proiecísti sermónes meos retrórsum.
Thou who hate discipline, and who have cast My words behind thou.
If thou sawest a thief, thou ranst with him, and thou put thy share with the adulterers.
Thy mouth was filled with malice, and thy tongue plotted fraud.
Sedens advérsus fratrem tuum loquebáris * et advérsus fílium matris tuæ proferébas oppróbrium.
Thou wouldst sit down to speak against thy brother, and thou wouldst set traps against thy mother's son.
Hæc fecísti, et tácui. Existimásti quod eram tui símilis. * Árguam te et státuam illa contra fáciem tuam.
This is what thou didst, and I was silent. Thou ungodly believed that I would be like thou. I will rebuke thou, and I will put everything before thy eyes.
Understand these things, thou who forget God; lest He tear apart, and no one can deliver.
Qui immolábit sacrifícium laudis, honorificábit me; et, qui immaculátus est in via, * osténdam illi salutáre Dei.”
The sacrifice of praise is that which will honor Me, and this is the way by which I will show man the salvation of God.
Amen.

Psalm 51
  Contra calumniatorem
Against slanderers
Qui gloriatur, in Domino glorietur (I Cor 1,31).
Let him who glories glory in the Lord
Quid gloriáris in malítia, * qui potens es iniquitáte?
Wherefore do thou glory in evil, thou who are valiant in committing iniquity?
Tota die insídias cogitásti; * lingua tua sicut novácula acúta, qui facis dolum.
All day long thy tongue has meditated on injustice; Like a sharp razor, thou practice deception.
Dilexísti malítiam super benignitátem, mendácium magis quam loqui æquitátem. * Dilexísti ómnia verba perditiónis, lingua dolósa.
Thou hast loved malice more than goodness, iniquity more than words of righteousness. Thou hast loved all the words of ruin, O deceitful tongue.
Wherefore God will destroy thou forevermore; He shall pluck thou out of thy tent and take thou out of thy tent, and He shall take away thy root from the land of the living.
Vidébunt iústi et timébunt * et super eum ridébunt:
The righteous will behold it, and will fear; and they will laugh at him, saying:
“Ecce homo, qui non pósuit Deum refúgium suum, sed sperávit in multitúdine divitiárum suárum * et præváluit in insídiis suis.”
Here is the man who did not take God for his protector, but who trusted in the multitude of his riches, and who took advantage of his vanity.
Ego autem sicut virens olíva in domo Dei. Sperávi in misericórdia Dei * in ætérnum et in sǽculum sǽculi.
But I am like a fertile olive tree in the house of God. * I hope in God's mercy forevermore and ever.
Confitébor tibi in sǽculum, quia fecísti; et exspectábo nomen tuum, quóniam bonum est; * in conspéctu sanctórum tuórum
I will praise Thee endlessly, forasmuch as Thou hast done this; and I will wait for Thy Name, forasmuch as it is good, in the presence of Thy saints.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

  Impiorum stultitia
Defeat of the godless
Omnes peccaverunt et egent gloria Dei (Rom 3, 23).
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23).
The fool says in his heart, "There is no God!" They are corrupt, they commit abominable crimes; there is none that does good.
God, from heaven, looks at the sons of man, to behold if there is anyone who is intelligent, someone who seeks God.
All are misguided, all are perverted; there is none of them who does good, not even one.
Have they not knowledge of those who commit iniquity? They devour my people as they eat bread,
  they do not call on God! They will suddenly tremble with terror, without there being any cause for terror;
Quóniam Deus dissipávit ossa eórum, qui te obsidébant * confúsi sunt, quóniám Deus sprevit eos.
for God has scattered the bones of him who was encamped against thee; thou hast confounded them, for God has rejected them.
Oh! may the deliverance of Israel come from Zion! When God brings back the captives of His people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will rejoice.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

  Imploratio auxilii
Imploring help
Orat propheta, ut in nomine Domini a persequentium malignitate liberetur (Cassiodorus).
The prophet prays to be delivered in the name of the Lord from the malice of his persecutors (Cassiodorus).
Deus, in nómine tuo salvum me fac * et in virtúte tua iúdica me.
O God, save me by Thy name, and do me justice by Thy power.
Deus, exáudi oratiónem meam, * áuribus pércipe verba oris mei!
O God, hearken my prayer, give ear unto the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen against me, violent men want my life; they do not put God before their eyes.
Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the support of my soul.
[Convérte mala super inimícos meos * et in veritáte tua dispérde illos.]
[He shall bring evil upon my adversaries; in Thy truth, destroy them!]
  Voluntárie sacrificábo tibi, * confitébor nómini tuo, Dómine, quóniam bonum est;
  With all my heart I will offer sacrifices to Thou; I will praise Thy name, Lord, for it is good;
quóniam ex omni tribulatióne erípuit me, * et super inimícos meos despéxit óculus meus.
He delivers me from all anguish, and my eyes rest with joy on my enemies.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalm 54 (55)
  Contra perfidum amicum
Against a treacherous friend
Cœpit Iesus pavere et tædere (Mc 14, 33).
Jesus began to feel frightened and anxious (Mk 14:33).
O God, give ear to my prayer, do not shrink from my supplications. Hearken unto me and answer me!
Excússus sum in meditatióne mea et conturbátus sum * a voce inimíci et a tribulatióne peccatóris.
I wander here and there, plaintive and groaning, before the threats of the enemy, before the oppression of the wicked!
Quóniam devolvérunt in me iniquitátem * et in ira molésti erant mihi.
For they bring calamity upon me, and they pursue me with anger.
Cor meum torquétur intra me, * et formído mortis cécidit super me.
My heart trembles within me, and upon me the terrors of death descend.
Timor et tremor venérunt super me, * et contéxit me pavor.
Fear and terror assail me, and shudder envelops me.
Et dixi: «Quis dabit mihi pennas sicut colúmbæ, * et volábo et requiéscam?
  And I said: Oh! if I had the wings of the dove, I would fly away and settle in repose;
Ecce elongábo fúgiens * et manébo in solitúdine.
behold, I would flee far away, and I would remain in solitude.
Exspectábo eum, qui salvum me fáciat * a spíritu procéllæ et tempestáte».
I would hasten to seek an asylum, far from the rushing wind, far from the hurricane.
Díssipa, Dómine, dívide línguas eórum, * quóniam vidi violéntiam et contentiónem in civitáte.
Destroy them, O Lord, divide their tongues! for I behold violence and discord in the city.
Day and night they go round its ramparts; iniquity and vexation are in her midst, perversity is in her bosom, oppression and cunning do not leave her places.
  Quóniam si inimícus meus maledixísset mihi, * sustinuíssem útique;
  For it is not an enemy that insults me: I would bear it;
et si is, qui óderat me, super me magnificátus fuísset, * abscondíssem me fórsitan ab eo.
it is not an adversary who rises up against me: I would hide myself before him.
Tu vero, homo coæquális meus, * familiáris meus et notus meus,
But thou wast another me, my confidant and my friend.
qui simul habúimus dulce consórtium: * in domo Dei ambulávimus in concúrsu.
We lived together in sweet intimacy, we went with the crowd unto the house of God.
[Véniat mors super illos, et descéndant in inférnum vivéntes,
May death surprise them, let them descend alive to Sheol!
quóniam nequítiæ in habitáculis eórum, in médio eórum. ]
For wickedness is in their dwelling, in their midst. ]
As for me, I cry out to God, and the Lord will save me.
Véspere et mane et merídie meditábor et ingemíscam, * et exáudiet vocem meam.
In the evening, in the morning, in the middle of the day, I complain, I groan, and he shall hearken my voice.
Rédimet in pace ánimam meam ab his, qui impúgnant me, * quóniam in multis sunt advérsum me.
He shall deliver my soul in peace from the battle that is being waged against me, for there are many who are waging war against me.
God will hearken, and he shall humble them, he who is before the ages.
For there is no change in them, and they have not the fear of God.
Exténdit manum suam in sócios; * contaminávit fœdus suum.
he lays his hand on those who were at peace with him, he violates his covenant.
From his mouth come words sweet as milk, and war is in his heart.
His speeches are smoother than oil, but they are naked swords.
Iacta super Dóminum curam tuam, et ipse te enútriet; * non dabit in ætérnum fluctuatiónem iusto.
Commit thy fate unto the Lord, and he shall sustain thou; he shall not let the righteous forevermore totter.
Tu vero, Deus, dedúces eos * in púteum intéritus.
  And thou, O God, will bring them down into the pit of perdition;
men of blood and cunning will not behold half their days; for my part, I put my trust in thee.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

  Fiducia in Domini verbo collocata
Trust in the Lord and His word.
Christus in passione monstratur (S. Hieronymus).
Christ shown in His passion (S. Jérôme).
Miserére mei, Deus, quóniam conculcávit me homo, * tota die impúgnans oppréssit me.
Have mercy on me, O God, for man is furious after me; all day long they make war on me, they persecute me.
Conculcavérunt me inimíci mei tota die, * quóniam multi pugnant advérsum me, Altíssime.
All day long my adversaries harass me; for there are many who fight me with their heads raised.
When I am in fear, I trust in Thou.
In Deo, cuius laudábo sermónem, in Deo sperávi; * non timébo: quid fáciet mihi caro?
By God's help, I will celebrate the fulfillment of His word; I trust in God, I fear naught: what would the flesh do against me?
Tota die rem meam perturbábant, * advérsum me omnes cogitatiónes eórum in malum.
They are constantly poisoning my words, all their thoughts are against me to ruin me.
Concitábant iúrgia, insidiabántur, * ipsi calcáneum meum observábant.
They plot, they post spies, they watch my tracks.
Sicut quæsiérunt ánimam meam, ita pro iniquitáte retríbue illis, * in ira pópulos prostérne, Deus.
Loaded with so many crimes, will they escape? In Thy wrath, O God, strike down the peoples!
Peregrinatiónes meas tu numerásti: pone lácrimas meas in utre tuo; * nonne in supputatióne tua?
Thou hast counted the steps of my wandering life, Thou hast collected my tears in Thy wineskin; Are they not written in Thy book?
Tunc converténtur inimíci mei retrórsum, in quacúmque die invocávero: * ecce cognóvi quóniam Deus meus es.
Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call upon Thou; I know it, God is for me.
In Deo, cuius laudábo sermónem, * in Dómino, cuius laudábo sermónem,
By the help of God. I will celebrate the fulfillment of His word; in the Lord I will celebrate the fulfillment of His promise,
in Deo sperávi; * non timébo: quid fáciet mihi homo?
in God I hope, I fear naught: What can a weak mortal do unto me?
Super me sunt, Deus, vota tua; * reddam laudatiónes tibi,
The vows I have made to Thou, O God, I have to fulfill; I will offer thou sacrifices of thanksgiving.
For Thou hast delivered my soul from death, have Thou not preserved my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

  Adversus insurgentes oratio
Prayer against proud adversaries
Hæ voces Salvatoris pietatem erga Patrem suum omnes edoceant (Eusebius Cæsariensis).
These are the words of the Lord, who teaches everyone piety towards His Father (Eusebius of Caesarea).
Eripe me de inimícis meis, Deus meus, * et ab insurgéntibus in me prótege me.
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God, protect me from my adversaries.
Eripe me de operántibus iniquitátem * et de viris sánguinum salva me.
Deliver me from those who work iniquity, and save me from men of blood.
Quia ecce insidiáti sunt ánimæ meæ, * irruérunt in me fortes.
For behold, they are on the lookout to take my life; violent men are plotting against me.
Without my being guilty, without my having sinned, Lord, in spite of my innocence, they run and lie in ambush.
Exsúrge in occúrsum meum et vide; fortitúdo mea, tibi atténdam; * quia, Deus, præsídium meum es.
Awake, come to meet me and behold; my strength, it is to Thou that I will behold, for God is my fortress.
  [et tu, Dómine, Deus virtútum, Deus Israel, * evígila ad visitándas omnes gentes;
[Thou, Lord, God of hosts, God of Israel, arise to punish all nations,
non misereáris ómnibus, * qui infidéliter operántur.
Have no mercy on these traitors and malefactors!
They come back in the evening, they growl like a dog, they go around the city.
Behold, their mouths vomit insult, there are swords on their lips: "Who is it that hears?" they say.
Et tu, Dómine, deridébis eos, * subsannábis omnes gentes.
And thou, Lord, laugh at them, mock all nations!
Fortitúdo mea, tibi atténdam, * quia, Deus, præsídium meum es.
My strength is to Thou that I will behold, for God is my fortress.
Deus meus, misericórdia eíus prævéniet me. * Deus fáciet, ut despíciam inimícos meos.
The God who is propitious unto me will come to meet me; God will make me contemplate my enemies.
  [Ne óccidas eos, * ne quando obliviscátur pópulus meus;
  [Kill not them, lest my people forget;
dispérge illos in virtúte tua et prostérne eos, * protéctor meus, Dómine.
make them wander by thy power and overthrow them, O Lord, our shield.
Peccátum oris eórum, sermo labiórum ipsórum, * et comprehendántur in supérbia sua.
Their mouths sin at every word of their lips; that they be caught up in their own pride,
Propter exsecratiónem et mendácium, * quod loquúntur,
forasmuch as of the curses and lies they speak!
Destroy them in thy fury, destroy them, and let them be no more; let them know that God reigns over Jacob unto the ends of the earth!

Deus meus, misericórdia eius prævéniet me. * Deus fáciet ut despíciam inimícos meos.
My God, His mercy precedes me. God will cause me to contemplate the humiliation of my enemies.
And I will sing of Thy strength, and in the morning I will praise Thy goodness,
for Thou art my stronghold, a refuge in the day of my tribulation.
Fortitúdo mea, tibi psallam, quia, Deus, præsídium meum es: * Deus meus misericórdia mea.
O my strength, I will sing in Thy honor, for God is my fortress, my God, my mercy.
Amen.

Ex Oratiónibus Basílii Seleuciénsis epíscopi (Orat. in sanctum Pascha, 1.2: PG 28, 1082.1083)
Christus resúrgens ex mórtuis, totam hóminum vitam festum effécit unum. Transláta quippe in cælum, hóminum in terris degéntium conversatióne, festórum diérum occasiónes dedit.

  r. Ego sicut vitis fructificávi suavitátem odóris, allelúia. * Transíte ad me omnes, qui concupíscitis me, et a generatiónibus meis adimplémini, allelúia, allelúia. v. Ego diligéntes me díligo, et qui mane vigiláverint ad me invénient me. * Transíte. v. Glória Patri. * Transíte.
