God, who filled us with zeal for souls and love for the neighbor Saint Maximilian-Mary, priest and martyr, inflamed with love for the Immaculate Virgin, grant us in Thy goodness, and through His intercession, to expend ourselves unsparingly in the service of men, and to be conformed to Thy Son even in death.
Lectio I
The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and the torment of death shall not touch them. They seemed in the eyes of the unwise to die: and their decease was counted affliction: and that which with us is the way, is destruction: but they are in peace. And though before men they suffered torments, their hope is full of immortality. Vexed in few things, in many they shall be well disposed of: because God hath tempted them, and hath found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace he hath proved them, and as an host of holocaust he hath received them, & in time there shall be respect of them. The just shall shine, and as sparks in a place of reeds they shall run abroad. They shall judge nations, & have dominion over peoples, and their Lord shall reign for ever. They that trust in him, shall understand truth: & the faithful in love shall rest in him: because rest and peace is to his elect.

Beloved: We know that we have passed from death to life forasmuch as we love our brethren and sisters. Whoever does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and thou knowest that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. By this we have come to know the love of God: that he laid down his life for us; and we, too, ought to lay down our lives for our brethren. If anyone has the world’s goods and, seeing his brother in need, closes his heart unto him, how does God’s love abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in deed and in truth.

Dixi, inquam, tibi: In sánguine tuo vive.
The word of the Lord came unto me, saying: “Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations; and thou shall say: Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: Thy lineage and thy origin are from the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother a Hittite. When thou wast born, on the day thou came into the world, thy umbilical cord was not cut; thou wast not washed with water to cleanse thou, nor rubbed with salt, nor wrapped in swaddling clothes. No eye looked upon thee with pity to do any of these things for thee out of compassion; but thou wast cast out on the day of thy birth, as though thou wast an object of loathing.Passing by thee, I saw thou trampled underfoot in thy blood, and I said unto thee, whilst thou wast covered in thy blood: “Live”; yes, I said unto thee: “Live in thy blood.”I made thou grow like the grass of the field; thou grew, thou became tall, thou flourished, thou reached the age of feminine beauty, thy breasts took shape, and thy hair grew; and thou wast naked and full of shame.I passed by thee and saw thou, and behold, it was the time for thee to be loved; I spread My garment over thou and covered thy shame; I swore to be faithful unto thee, and I made a covenant with thee, says the Lord God, and thou became Mine. I washed thou with water, I cleansed thou of thy blood, and I anointed thou with oil.I clothed thou in embroidered garments; I gave thou hyacinth-colored sandals; I girded thou with linen and covered thou with the finest garments. I adorned thou with jewelry; I put bracelets on thy hands and a necklace around thy neck.I placed a gold ring on thy lips, earrings in thy ears, and a magnificent crown on thy head. Thou wast adorned with gold and silver, and thou wast clothed in linen and embroidery of various colors; thou ate the finest flour, honey, and oil; thou became exceedingly beautiful, and thou attained royal dignity. Thy fame spread amongst the nations forasmuch as of thy beauty; for thee were perfect, thanks unto the beauty I had placed within thou, says the Lord God.But, trusting in thy beauty, thou prostituted thyself, using thy fame to thy advantage, and thou exposed thy fornication to all who passed by, giving thyself unto them. And I will keep in remembrance My covenant with thee on the day of thy youth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with thee, so that thou may keep in remembrance and be put to shame, and so that thou shalt no longer be able to open thy mouth in thy shame, when I have forgiven thou for all that thou hast done,” says the Lord God.

In illo tempore: Dixit Iesus discipulis suis: Sicut diléxit me Pater, et ego diléxi vos; manéte in dilectióne mea.
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: As my Father hath loved me, I also have loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my precepts, you shall abide in my love: as I also have kept my Father's precepts, and do abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be filled. This is my precept, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love than this no man hath, that a man yield his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you. Now I call you not servants: for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth. But you I have called friends; because all things whatsoever I heard of my Father, I have notified unto you. You chose not me, but I chose you; and have appointed you: that you go, & bring fruit; and your fruit abide: that whatsoever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that you love one another.

At that time: there came to him the Pharisees tempting Jesus, and saying: Is it lawful for a man to dismiss his wife for every cause? Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he which did make from the beginning, made them male & female? And he said: For this cause, man shall leave father & mother, & shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. That therefore which God hath joined together, let not man separate. They say to him: Why then did Moyses command to give a bill of divorce, and to dismiss her? He saith to them: Because Moyses for the hardness of your heart permitted you to dismiss your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, that whosoever shall dismiss his wife, but for fornication, and shall marry another, doth commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is dismissed, committeth adultery. His Disciples say unto him: If the case of a man with his wife be so, it is not expedient to marry. Who said to them: Not all take this word, but they to whom it is given. For there are Eunuchs which were born so from their mother's womb: and there are Eunuchs, which were made by men: and there are Eunuchs, which have gelded themselves for the Kingdom of Heaven. He that can take, let him take.

It is verily right and just, fair and salutary, to give thee thanks evermore and everywhere: Lord, holy Father, eternal and almighty God:
For the blood shed by the blessed martyr N. in confession of Thy name, in imitation of Christ, reveals Thy wonders, through which Thou perfect strength in weakness and sustain failing strength for the sake of witness, through Christ our Lord.
Et ídeo, cum cælórum Virtútibus, in terris te iúgiter celebrámus, maiestáti tuæ sine fine clamántes:
And that is wherefore, together with the Powers of heaven, we celebrate Thou unceasingly on earth, endlessly acclaiming Thy majesty:

God's Wonders in the Martyrs' Victory

If they suffered torments before men, it's forasmuch as God tested them, tried them like gold in the furnace, and accepted them as a burnt offering.

We pray, Lord, that, nourished by the Body and Blood of Thy Son, we may be set ablaze by the fire of love that Saint Maximilian Mary received from this banquet.
