O God, who granted to Blessed Jerome the priest a lively and delightful attachment to Sacred Scripture, let Thy people be nourished by Thy word more abundantly and find in it the source of life.

Beloved: But thou, continue in those things which thou hast learned, & are committed to thee: knowing of whom thou hast learned; & because from thine infancy thou hast known the holy Scriptures, which can instruct thee to salvation, by the faith that is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to argue, to correct, to instruct in justice: that the man of God may be perfect, instructed to every good work.

Iob (9,1-12.14-16)
Job spoke up and said: Indeed I know it is so, and that man is not justified compared with God. If he will content with him, he cannot answer him one for a thousand. He is wise of heart, and strong of force: who hath resisted him, and hath had peace? He that transported mountains, and they whom he subverted in his fury, knew not. He that removeth the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof are shaken. He that commandeth the sun, and it riseth not: and shutteth up the stars as it were under a seal: He that alone spreadeth the heaven, & goeth upon the waves of the sea. He that maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the inner parts of the south. He that doth great things and incomprehensible, and marvelous, of the which there is no number. If he come to me, I shall not see him: if he depart, I shall not understand. If suddenly he ask, who shall answer him? Or who can say: Why doest thou so? God whose wrath no man can resist, and under whom they stoop that carry the world. How great am I then, that I may answer him, and speak in my words with him? Who although I have any just thing, will not answer, but will beseech my judge. And when he shall hear me invocating, I do not believe that he hath heard my voice.

At that time, Jesus said to the crowds: the Kingdom of Heaven is like to a net cast into the sea, and gathering together of all kind of fishes. Which, when it was filled, drawing it forth, and sitting by the shore, they chose out the good into vessels, but the bad they did cast out. So shall it be in the consummation of the world. The Angels shall go forth, and shall separate the evil from among the just. And shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yea. He said unto them: Therefore every Scribe instructed in the Kingdom of Heaven, is like to a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old.

Evangelium
At that time: while Jesus and His disciples walked in the way, a certain man said to him: I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. Jesus said to him: The foxes have holes, and the fowls of the air nests; but the Son of man hath not where to repose his head. But he said to another: Follow me. And he said: Lord, permit me first to go, and to bury my father. And Jesus said to him: Let the dead bury their dead; but go thou, set forth the Kingdom of God. And another said: I will follow thee Lord, but permit me first to take my leave of them that are at home. Jesus said to him: No man putting his hand to the plough, and looking back, is apt for the Kingdom of God.

PREFACE OF THE HOLY PASTORS
De præsentia sanctorum Pastorum in Ecclesia
On the Presence of Holy Shepherds in the Church
Verily, it is right and just, fair and salutary for us, evermore and everywhere, to give thee thanks: Lord, Holy Father, eternal and almighty God, through Christ our Lord.
Quia sic tríbuis Ecclésiam tuam sancti N. festivitáte gaudére, ut eam exémplo piæ conversatiónis corróbores, verbo prædicatiónis erúdias, gratáque tibi supplicatióne tueáris.
Forasmuch as Thou grant us the joy of celebrating the feast of Saint N. today, strengthening Thy Church through the example of his holy life, instructing it through his words, and protecting it through his intercession.
That is wherefore, together with the angels and the host of saints, we sing a hymn of praise unto thee, saying without end:
