Beloved: This is the message we have received from Him and proclaim unto thee: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we are in fellowship with Him, yet walk in darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. But if we walk in the light, just as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have no sin, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. My little children, I am writing these things unto thee so that thou may not sin; but even if anyone has sinned, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins—and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

   Lectio I

In those days: there was made a great disputation, Peter rising up said to them: Men brethren, you know that of old days God among us chose, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the Gospel, and believe. And God which knoweth the hearts, gave testimony, giving unto them the Holy Ghost as well as to us, and hath put no difference between us and them, by faith purifying their hearts. Now therefore why tempt you God, to put a yoke upon the necks of the Disciples, which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ we believe to be saved, in like manner as they also. And all the multitude held their peace: and they heard Barnabas and Paul telling what great signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles by them. And after they held their peace, James answered, saying: Men brethren, hear me. Simon hath told how God first visited to take of the Gentiles a people to his name. And to this accord the words of the Prophets, as it is written: After these things I will return, and will re-edify the tabernacle of David which was fallen, and the ruins thereof I will re-edify, and set it up: that the residue of men may seek after the Lord, and all nations upon whom my name is invocated, saith the Lord that doeth these things. To our Lord was his own work known from the beginning of the world. For the which cause I judge, that they which of the Gentiles are converted to God, are not to be disquieted, but to write unto them that they refrain themselves from the contaminations of idols, and fornication, and strangled things, and blood. For Moyses of old times hath in every city them that preach him in the Synagogues, where he is read every Sabboth.

The Sign of a Life Dedicated to God
Sequens præfatio dicitur in sollemnitatibus et festis Sanctarum Virginum et Sanctorum Religiosorum. Dici potest in memoriis ipsorum.
The following preface is recited during solemnities and feasts of the Holy Virgins and holy women religious. It may also be recited when their memorials are celebrated.
It is verily right and just, it is our duty and our salvation, to give thee thanks evermore and everywhere, Lord, holy Father, eternal and almighty God:
Indeed, we should celebrate Thy wondrous providence in the saints, who have consecrated themselves to Christ for the sake of the kingdom of heaven, through which Thou restore human nature to its original holiness and lead it to experience the gifts that will be bestowed in the world to come.
That is wherefore, together with the saints and all the angels, we praise Thou, saying without end:
