Ad te levávi óculos meos, * qui hábitas in cælis.

To thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven.

Ecce sicut óculi servórum ad manus dominórum suórum, * sicut óculi ancíllæ ad manus dóminæ suæ,

Behold as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters,

ita óculi nostri ad Dóminum Deum nostrum, * donec misereátur nostri.

As the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress: so are our eyes unto the Lord our God, until he have mercy on us.

Miserére nostri, Dómine, miserére nostri, * quia multum repléti sumus despectióne;

Nisi quia Dóminus erat in nobis, dicat nunc Israel, † nisi quia Dóminus erat in nobis, * cum exsúrgerent hómines in nos:

If it had not been that the Lord was with us, let Israel now say: If it had not been that the Lord was with us, When men rose up against us,

forte vivos deglutíssent nos, * cum irascerétur furor eórum in nos.

perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us, perhaps the waters had swallowed us up.

Supplication and thanksgiving

Pater, gratias ago tibi quoniam audisti me (Io 11, 41).

Father, I thank You for You have listened to me (Io 11, 41).

Ad te, Dómine, clamábo; * Deus meus, ne síleas a me.

It is to Thou, Lord, that I cry; my God, do not remain deaf to my voice.

Nequándo táceas a me, * et assimilábor descendéntibus in lacum.

Lest if Thou keepest silent I will be like those who go down into the pit.

Exáudi vocem deprecatiónis meæ, dum clamo ad te, * dum extóllo manus meas ad templum sanctum tuum.

Hearken unto the voice of my supplications, when I cry out to Thou, when I lift up my hands to Thy holy sanctuary.

Ne simul trahas me cum peccatóribus * et cum operántibus iniquitátem.

Do not carry me away with the wicked and the artisans of iniquity.

Blessed be the Lord, for He hath heard the voice of my supplications; the Lord is my strength and my shield,

in Him my heart was trusted and I was helped; so my heart is glad, and I will praise Him with my songs.

Hæc dicit Dóminus: Invénit grátiam in desérto pópulus, qui remánserat a gládio; vadet ad réquiem suam Israel. De longe Dóminus appáruit mihi: In caritáte perpétua diléxi te; ídeo attráxi te in misericórdia. Rursúmque ædificábo te, et ædificáberis.

Thus saith the Lord: The people were left and escaped from the sword, found grace in the desert: Israel shall to his rest. The Lord hath appeared from afar to me. Yea I have loved thee with everlasting love, therefore have I drawn thee, taking pity on thee. Deign to grant, Almighty God, unto us who glory in the Heart of Thy beloved Son, and who celebrate the benefits of His charity towards us; grant that we may receive from this heavenly source a superabundant grace.
