Psalmus 88 (89), 2-38
Psalm 88 (89), 2-38
Misericordiæ Domini super domum David
The Lord's mercies upon the house of David.
Deus ex semine David secundum promissionem eduxit Salvatorem Iesum (Act 13, 22. 23).
God, according to His promise, brought forth a Savior, Jesus, from the race of David.

Misericórdias Dómini in ætérnum cantábo, * in generatiónem et generatiónem annuntiábo veritátem tuam in ore meo.
I will sing the mercies of the Lord for ever; from generation to generation my mouth will declare Thy truth.
Quóniam dixísti: «In ætérnum misericórdia ædificábitur», * in cælis firmábitur véritas tua.
For Thou hast said, "Mercy will be raised up like an everlasting building in heaven; Thy truth will be firmly established there.
«Dispósui testaméntum elécto meo, * iurávi David servo meo:
I have entered into a covenant with My chosen ones; I swore this oath to David My servant:
Usque in ætérnum confirmábo semen tuum * et ædificábo in generatiónem et generatiónem sedem tuam».
I will preserve thy seed forevermore, and I will establish thy throne for all generations.
Confitebúntur cæli mirabília tua, Dómine, * étenim veritátem tuam in ecclésia sanctórum.
Heaven will declare Thy wonders, Lord, and Thy truth in the assembly of the saints.
Quóniam quis in núbibus æquábitur Dómino, * símilis erit Dómino in fíliis Dei?
For who in heaven will be equal unto the Lord? and who will be like God amongst the sons of God?
God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints, is greater and more formidable than all those around Him.
Dómine Deus virtútum, quis símilis tibi? * Potens es, Dómine, et véritas tua in circúitu tuo.
Lord, God of hosts, who is like Thou? Thou art mighty, Lord, and Thy truth surrounds Thou.
Tu domináris supérbiæ maris, * elatiónes flúctuum eius tu mítigas.
Thou dominate the mightiness of the sea, and thou calm the movement of its waves.
Tu conculcásti sicut vulnerátum Rahab, * in bráchio virtútis tuæ dispersísti inimícos tuos.
Thou hast humbled the proud as a wounded man; Thou hast, by the strength of Thy arm, scattered Thy enemies.
Thine are the heavens, and thine the earth; it is Thou who founded the universe and all that it contains;
Aquilónem et austrum tu creásti, * Thabor et Hermon in nómine tuo exsultábunt.
Thou created the aquilon and the sea. Tabor and Hermon rejoice at Thy Name;
Thy arm is armed with power. Let Thy hand be firm, and let Thy right hand be lifted up.
Iustítia et iudícium firmaméntum sedis tuæ. * Misericórdia et véritas præcédent fáciem tuam.
Justice and equity are the support of Thy throne. Mercy and truth will walk before Thy face.
Beátus pópulus, qui scit iubilatiónem. * Dómine, in lúmine vultus tui ambulábunt
Happy are the people who know joyful acclamations. Lord, they will walk in the light of Thy countenance;
et in nómine tuo exsultábunt tota die * et in iustítia tua exaltabúntur,
they will rejoice all day long in Thy Name, and they will be exalted by Thy righteousness.
quóniam decor virtútis eórum tu es, * et in beneplácito tuo exaltábitur cornu nostrum.
For Thou art the glory of their strength, and it is on Thy goodness that our power will rise.
For it is the Lord who sustains us; it is the Holy One of Israel, our King.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Numquid dicet figméntum ei, qui se finxit: " Quid me fecísti sic?
r. Deus, in te sperávi, Dómine, non confúndar in ætérnum. * In tua iustítia líbera me et éripe me. v. Esto mihi in Deum protectórem et in locum munítum, ut salvum me fácias. * In tua iustítia. v. Glória Patri. * In tua iustítia.

Entretiens spirituels de saint François de Sales, dernier entretien (Dernier entretien: éd. d'Annecy, t.VI, 429
Legitur in lingua vernacula.
Lecture I

God, who willed that Blessed Francis, the bishop, should become all things to all for the salvation of souls, grant us, in thy goodness, that following his example, we may evermore manifest the sweetness of thy charity in the service of our brethren and sisters.
