Psalmus 109 (110)
Psalm 109 (110)
Messias rex et sacerdos
The messiah, king and priest
Oportet illum regnare, donec ponat omnes inimicos sub pedibus eius (1 Cor 15, 25).
He must reign, having put all His enemies under His feet (1 Cor 15:25).
Dixit Dóminus Dómino meo: * « Sede a dextris meis,
The Lord said to my Lord: Sit thou at my right hand:
donec ponam inimícos tuos * scabéllum pedum tuórum ».
Until I make thy enemies thy footstool.
Virgam poténtiæ tuæ emíttet Dóminus ex Sion: * domináre in médio inimicórum tuórum.
The Lord will send forth the sceptre of thy power out of Sion: rule thou in the midst of thy enemies.
Tecum principátus in die virtútis tuæ, † in splendóribus sanctis, * ex útero ante lucíferum génui te.
With thee is the principality in the day of thy strength: in the brightness of the saints: from the womb before the day star I begot thee.
Iurávit Dóminus et non pænitébit eum: * « Tu es sacérdos in ætérnum secúndum órdinem Melchísedech ».
The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent: Thou art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedech.
Dóminus a dextris tuis, * conquassábit in die iræ suæ reges.
The Lord at thy right hand hath broken kings in the day of his wrath.
Iudicábit in natiónibus: cumulántur cadávera, * conquassábit cápita in terra spatiósa.
He shall judge among nations, he shall fill ruins: he shall crush the heads in the land of the many.
De torrénte in via bibet, * proptérea exaltábit caput.
He shall drink of the torrent in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

Psalmus 110 (111)
Psalm 110 (111)
Magna opera Domini
Great are the works of the Lord
Magna et mirabilia opera tua, Domine Deus omnipotens (Ap 15, 3).
Great and marvellous are Your works, O Lord, Almighty God (Rev 15:3).
Confitébor Dómino in toto corde meo, * in consílio iustórum et congregatióne.
I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; in the council of the just: and in the congregation.
Magna ópera Dómini, * exquirénda ómnibus, qui cúpiunt ea.
Great are the works of the Lord: sought out according to all his wills.
His work is praise and magnificence: and his justice continueth for ever and ever.
Memóriam fecit mirabílium suórum, * miséricors et miserátor Dóminus.
He hath made a remembrance of his wonderful works, being a merciful and gracious Lord:
Escam dedit timéntibus se; * memor erit in sǽculum testaménti sui.
He hath given food to them that fear him. He will be mindful for ever of his covenant:
Virtútem óperum suórum annuntiávit pópulo suo, * ut det illis hereditátem géntium;
He will shew forth to his people the power of his works. That he may give them the inheritance of the Gentiles:
ópera mánuum eius véritas et iudícium. * Fidélia ómnia mandáta eius,
the works of his hands are truth and judgment. All his commandments are faithful:
confirmáta in sǽculum sǽculi, * facta in veritáte et æquitáte.
confirmed for ever and ever, made in truth and equity.
Redemptiónem misit pópulo suo, † mandávit in ætérnum testaméntum suum. * Sanctum et terríbile nomen eius.
He hath sent redemption to his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever. Holy and terrible is his name:
Inítium sapiéntiæ timor Dómini, † intelléctus bonus ómnibus faciéntibus ea; * laudátio eius manet in sǽculum sǽculi.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. A good understanding to all that do it: his praise continueth for ever and ever.
Amen.

Psalmus 111 (112)
Psalm 111 (112)
Viri iusti beatitudo
Beatitude of the righteous man
Walk as children of light; the fruit of light is all that is good and right and true (Eph 5:8-9).
Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments.
Potens in terra erit semen eius, * generátio rectórum benedicétur.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.
Glory and wealth shall be in his house: and his justice remaineth for ever and ever.
To the righteous a light is risen up in darkness: he is merciful, and compassionate and just.
Iucúndus homo, qui miserétur et cómmodat, * dispónet res suas in iudício,
Acceptable is the man that sheweth mercy and lendeth: he shall order his words with judgment:
quia in ætérnum non commovébitur. * In memória ætérna erit iustus,
Because he shall not be moved for ever.
ab auditióne mala non timébit. * Parátum cor eius, sperans in Dómino,
The just shall be in everlasting remembrance: he shall not fear the evil hearing. His heart is ready to hope in the Lord:
confirmátum est cor eius, non timébit, * donec despíciat inimícos suos.
His heart is strengthened, he shall not be moved until he look over his enemies.
Distríbuit, dedit paupéribus; † iustítia eius manet in sǽculum sǽculi, * cornu eius exaltábitur in glória.
He hath distributed, he hath given to the poor: his justice remaineth for ever and ever: his horn shall be exalted in glory.
Peccátor vidébit et irascétur, † déntibus suis fremet et tabéscet. * Desidérium peccatórum períbit.
The wicked shall see, and shall be angry, he shall gnash with his teeth and pine away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Psalmus 112 (113)
Psalm 112 (113)
Laudabile nomen Domini
Praise the name of the Lord
He removes the mighty from their thrones and exalts the humble (Lk 1:52).
Laudáte, púeri Dómini, * laudáte nomen Dómini.
Praise the Lord, ye children: praise ye the name of the Lord.
Blessed be the name of the Lord, from henceforth now and for ever.
A solis ortu usque ad occásum * laudábile nomen Dómini.
From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the name of the Lord is worthy of praise.
Excélsus super omnes gentes Dóminus, * super cælos glória eius.
The Lord is high above all nations; and his glory above the heavens.
Quis sicut Dóminus Deus noster, * qui in altis hábitat
Who is as the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high:
et se inclínat, ut respíciat * in cælum et in terram?
And looketh down on the low things in heaven and in earth?
Súscitans de terra ínopem, * de stércore érigens páuperem,
Raising up the needy from the earth, and lifting up the poor out of the dunghill:
ut cóllocet eum cum princípibus, * cum princípibus pópuli sui.
That he may place him with princes, with the princes of his people.
Qui habitáre facit stérilem in domo, * matrem filiórum lætántem.
Who maketh a barren woman to dwell in a house, the joyful mother of children.

To greet His birth the Wise Men went, Led by the star before them sent; Called on by light, towards Light they pressed, And by their gifts their God confessed.
Lavácra puri gúrgitis cæléstis Agnus áttigit; peccáta quæ non détulit nos abluéndo sústulit.
In holy Jordan’s purest wave The heavenly Lamb vouchsafed to lave; That He, to whom was sin unknown, Might cleanse His people from their own.
Iesu, tibi sit glória,

Canticum Evangelicum (Lc 1, 46-55)
Gospel Canticle (Lk 1:46-55)
Exultatio animæ in Domino
Exultation of the soul in the Lord
Magníficat ✠ ánima mea Dóminum, * et exsultávit spíritus meus in Deo salvatóre meo,
My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced * in God my Saviour.
Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; * for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; * and holy is his name.
And his mercy is from generation unto generations, * to them that fear him.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo, * dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
He hath shewed might in his arm: * he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
depósuit poténtes de sede * et exaltávit húmiles;
He hath put down the mighty from their seat, * and hath exalted the humble.
esuriéntes implévit bonis * et dívites dimísit inánes.
He hath filled the hungry with good things; * and the rich he hath sent empty away.
Suscépit Israel púerum suum, * recordátus misericórdiæ,
He hath received Israel his servant, * being mindful of his mercy:
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros, * Abraham et sémini eius in sǽcula.
As he spoke to our fathers, * to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
Amen.
