  Absit mihi gloriári, nisi in cruce Dómini nostri Iesu Christi, per quem mihi mundus crucifíxus est et ego mundo. Domínicæ passiónis sacraméntum magnum est et profúndum, quod sapiéntibus huius mundi visum est stultum. Sed hoc stultum Dei sapiéntius est homínibus quam hómines esse possint vel intellégere. Hoc enim est sacraméntum quod a sapiéntibus et prudéntibus huius sæculi est abscónditum, et revelátum est párvulis.   Eternal and almighty God, in order to show mankind what abasement it ought to imitate, Thou willed that our Saviour, in a body like ours, should suffer the death of the cross: grant us this grace to retain the teachings of His Passion and to share in His resurrection.
