A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: * a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Benedíctus ✠ Dóminus, Deus Israel, * quia visitávit et fecit redemptiónem plebi suæ

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; * because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people:

et eréxit cornu salútis nobis * in domo David púeri sui,

And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, * in the house of David his servant:

sicut locútus est per os sanctórum, * qui a sǽculo sunt, prophetárum eius,

As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * who are from the beginning:

salútem ex inimícis nostris * et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos;

Salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:

ad faciéndam misericórdiam cum pátribus nostris * et memorári testaménti sui sancti,

To perform mercy to our fathers, * and to remember his holy testament,

iusiurándum, quod iurávit ad Abraham patrem nostrum, * datúrum se nobis,

The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, * that he would grant to us,

ut sine timóre, de manu inimicórum liberáti, * serviámus illi

That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,

in sanctitáte et iustítia coram ipso * ómnibus diébus nostris.

In holiness and justice before him, * all our days.

Et tu, puer, prophéta Altíssimi vocáberis: * præíbis enim ante fáciem Dómini paráre vias eius,

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi eius * in remissiónem peccatórum eórum,

To give knowledge of salvation to his people, * unto the remission of their sins:

per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri, * in quibus visitábit nos óriens ex alto,

Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, * in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:

illumináre his, qui in ténebris et in umbra mortis sedent, * ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.

To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.

Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

r. Christus factus est pro nobis obœdiens usque ad mortem, mortem autem crucis. v. Propter quod et Deus exaltávit illum, et dedit illi nomen, quod est super omne nomen. r. Christus.

Eternal and almighty God, whose only begotten Son descended into the lower regions of the earth, whence He also ascended gloriously, grant that Thy faithful buried with Him in baptism, when He riseth, may advance to eternal life.
