The third hour already rises, In which Christ ascended the cross; Nothing unseemly disturbs the mind, But with sincere desire turn to prayer.

Qui corde Christum súscipit, innóxium sensum gerit votísque præstat sédulis Sanctum meréri Spíritum.

Affliction of the righteous and exaucement

Clamavit Iesus voce magna: «Eli, Eli, lema sabacthani?» (Mt 27, 46).

Jesus cried out in a loud voice: "Eli, Eli, lema sabacthani?" (Mt 27:46).

Deus, Deus meus, quare me dereliquísti? * Longe a salúte mea verba rugítus mei.

My God, my God, wherefore have Thou forsaken me? I groan, and salvation remains far from me!

Deus meus, clamo per diem, et non exáudis, * et nocte, et non est réquies mihi.

My God, I cry out during the day, and Thou dost not answer; night, and I have no rest.

Tu autem sanctus es, * qui hábitas in láudibus Israel.

Yet Thou art holy, Thou dwellest amongst the hymns of Israel.

In te speravérunt patres nostri, * speravérunt et liberásti eos;

In thee our fathers trusted; they have confided, and Thou hast delivered them.

Qui timétis Dóminum, laudáte eum, * univérsum semen Iacob, glorificáte eum.

Thou who fear the Lord, praise Him, all thou descendants of Jacob, glorify Him.

Métuat eum omne semen Israel, * quóniam non sprevit neque despéxit afflictiónem páuperis,

Let all the descendants of Israel fear him, for he hath not despised or rejected the suffering of the poor,

nec avértit fáciem suam ab eo * et, cum clamáret ad eum, exaudívit.

He did not hide His face from him, and when the afflicted cried out to Him, He heard. "

Apud te laus mea in ecclésia magna; * vota mea reddam in conspéctu timéntium eum.

Thanks to Thou, my hymn will resound in the great assembly, I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who fear Thou.

Edent páuperes et saturabúntur, † et laudábunt Dóminum, qui requírunt eum: * «Vivant corda eórum in sǽculum sǽculi!».

The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise Him."May their hearts live forevermore!"

Reminiscéntur et converténtur ad Dóminum univérsi fines terræ, * et adorábunt in conspéctu eius univérsæ famíliæ géntium.

All the ends of the earth will keep in remembrance and turn unto the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down to His face.

Quóniam Dómini est regnum, * et ipse dominábitur géntium.

For unto the Lord belongs the empire, He dominates over the nations.

Ipsum solum adorábunt omnes, qui dórmiunt in terra; * in conspéctu eius prócident omnes, qui descéndunt in púlverem.

They will worship Him alone, those who sleep in the earth; before Him will bow all those who descend unto the dust,

Anima autem mea illi vivet, * et semen meum sérviet ipsi.

Wherefore my soul will live in Him, and my seed will serve Him.

Narrábitur de Dómino generatióni ventúræ, et annuntiábunt iustítiam eius pópulo, qui nascétur: * «Hæc fecit Dóminus!».

The Lord will be spoken of unto the future generation. They will come and declare His righteousness unto the people that will be born, they will say, "The Lord has done these things."

Deus, qui beátum Fidélem, amóre tuo succénsum, in fídei propagatióne martýrii palma decoráre dignátus es, † ipso interveniénte, concéde, * ut, in caritáte fundáti, cum illo resurrectiónis Christi virtútem cognóscere mereámur. Qui tecum.

God, who deigned to honor the Blessed Faithful, inflamed with Thy love, with the palm of martyrdom in the propagation of the faith, through his intercession, grant us, rooted in charity, that we may merit to know with him the power of Christ's resurrection.
