   Lectio I

Thus says the Lord to Shebna, the steward of the palace: I will expel thee from thy standing, and depose thee from thy ministry. And it shall be in that day: I will call my servant Eliacim the son of Helcias, and will clothe him with thy coat, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, & to the house of Juda. And I will give the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and there shall be none to shut: and he shall shut, and there shall be none to open. And I will fasten him as a pin in a sure place, and he shall be for a throne of glory to the house of his father.

   r. Glória tibi Dómine.
   r. Glory be to Thee, O Lord..
In illo témpore: Secéssit Iesus, in partes Tyri et Sidónis. Et ecce múlier Chananǽa a fínibus illis egréssa clamávit dicens: “ Miserére mei, Dómine, fili David! Fília mea male a dæmónio vexátur ”. At illa venit et adorávit eum dicens: “ Dómine, ádiuva me! ”.
At that time: Jesus went forth from thence and retired into the quarters of Tyre and Sidon. And behold a woman of Chanaan came forth out of those coasts, & crying out, said to him: Have mercy upon me, O Lord the Son of David: my daughter is sore vexed of a devil. Who answered her not a word. And his Disciples came and besought him saying: Dismiss her, because she cryeth out after us. And he answering said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel. But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me. Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the Children, and to cast it to the dogs. But she said: Yea Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. Then Jesus answering said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: And her daughter was made whole from that hour.

PRÆFATIO IV DE DOMINICIS „PER ANNUM“
PREFACE IV UNTO THE SUNDAYS “THROUGHOUT THE YEAR”
   De historia salutis
   On the History of Salvation
Verily, it is right and just, fair and salutary for us, evermore and everywhere, to give thee thanks: Lord, Holy Father, eternal and almighty God, through Christ our Lord.
Ipse enim nascéndo vetustátem hóminum renovávit, patiéndo delévit nostra peccáta, ætérnæ vitæ áditum prǽstitit a mórtuis resurgéndo, ad te Patrem ascendéndo cæléstes iánuas reserávit.
It is He who, by His birth, renewed humanity’s decay; through His suffering, He washed away our sins; He opened the door to eternal life by rising from the dead; and by ascending unto thee, the Father, He opened the gates of heaven.
And so, together with the angels and the host of saints, we sing a hymn of praise unto thee, saying without end:
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dóminus Deus Sábaoth...

Primum quǽrite regnum Dei, et ómnia adiiciéntur vobis, dicit Dóminus.
SEEK first the Kingdom of God: and all things shall be added unto you, saith the Lord.
   Post communionem

Having been made partakers of Christ through these sacraments, Lord, we most humbly implore Thy mercy, that we may be worthy to become like Him on earth and His brethren in heaven. He who lives and reigns forevermore and ever.
   Ad Missam lectam:

   Ant. ad introitum
   Ant. ad entrance
   Ps 83, 101

Protéctor noster, áspice, Deus, et réspice in fáciem Christi tui, quia mélior est dies una in átriis tuis super míllia.
Thou who are our protector, behold down, O God, and cast Thy eyes upon the face of Thy Christ. For a single day spent in Thy courts is better than a thousand.
   Ant. ad communionem
   Ant. at communion
   Ps 129, 7

Apud Dóminum misericórdia, et copiósa apud eum redémptio.
With the Lord is mercy, and with him is redemption in abundance.
   Vel:
   Or:
    Io 6, 51-52

I am the living bread which came down from heaven, says the Lord: if anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forevermore.
