Hymnus
Amen.

Beati pauperes, quia vestrum est regnum Dei. (Lc 6, 20)
Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

Ut quid, Dómine, stas a longe, * abscóndis te in opportunitátibus, in tribulatióne?
Why, O Lord, hast thou retired afar off? why dost thou slight us in our wants, in the time of trouble?
Dum supérbit, ímpius inséquitur páuperem; * comprehendántur in consíliis, quæ cógitant.
Whilst the wicked man is proud, the poor is set on fire: they are caught in the counsels which they devise.
Quóniam gloriátur peccátor in desidériis ánimæ suæ, * et avárus sibi benedícit.
For the sinner is praised in the desires of his soul: and the unjust man is blessed.
The sinner hath provoked the Lord, according to the multitude of his wrath he will not seek him:
God is not before his eyes: his ways are filthy at all times.
Excélsa nimis iudícia tua a fácie eius; * omnes inimícos suos aspernátur.
Thy judgments are removed from his sight: he shall rule over all his enemies.
Dixit enim in corde suo: « Non movébor, * in generatiónem et generatiónem ero sine malo ».
For he hath said in his heart: I shall not be moved from generation to generation, and shall be without evil.
His mouth is full of cursing, and of bitterness, and of deceit: under his tongue are labour and sorrow.
Sedet in insídiis ad vicos, * in occúltis intérficit innocéntem.
He sitteth in ambush with the rich in private places, that he may kill the innocent.
Oculi eius in páuperem respíciunt. * Insidiátur in abscóndito quasi leo in spelúnca sua.
His eyes are upon the poor man: he lieth in wait in secret like a lion in his den.
Insidiátur, ut rápiat páuperem; * rapit páuperem, dum áttrahit in láqueum suum.
He lieth in ambush that he may catch the poor man: to catch the poor, whilst he draweth him to him.
In his net he will bring him down, he will crouch and fall, when he shall have power over the poor.
For he hath said in his heart: God hath forgotten, he hath turned away his face, not to see to the end.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

Exsúrge, Dómine Deus; exálta manum tuam, * ne obliviscáris páuperum.
Arise, O Lord God, let thy hand be exalted: forget not the poor.
Propter quid spernit ímpius Deum? * Dixit enim in corde suo: "Non requíres".
Wherefore hath the wicked provoked God? for he hath said in his heart: He will not require it.
Thou seest it, for thou considerest labour and sorrow: that thou mayst deliver them into thy hands.
Tibi derelíctus est pauper, * órphano tu factus es adiútor.
To thee is the poor man left: thou wilt be a helper to the orphan.
Break thou the arm of the sinner and of the malignant: his sin shall be sought, and shall not be found.
Dóminus rex in ætérnum et in sǽculum sǽculi: * periérunt gentes de terra illíus.
The Lord shall reign to eternity, yea, for ever and ever: ye Gentiles shall perish from his land.
Desidérium páuperum exaudísti, Dómine; * confirmábis cor eórum, inténdes aurem tuam
The Lord hath heard the desire of the poor: thy ear hath heard the preparation of their heart.
To judge for the fatherless and for the humble, that man may no more presume to magnify himself upon earth.

Propter nos pauperes Pater Filium dignatus est mittere. (S. Augustinus)
For us poor, the Father deigned to send His Son (S. Augustine)
Salvum me fac, Dómine, quóniam defécit sanctus, * quóniam deminúti sunt fidéles a fíliis hóminum.
Save me, O Lord, for there is now no saint: truths are decayed from among the children of men.
They have spoken vain things every one to his neighbour: with deceitful lips, and with a double heart have they spoken.
Dispérdat Dóminus univérsa lábia dolósa * et linguam magníloquam.
May the Lord destroy all deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things.
Who have said: We will magnify our tongue; our lips are our own; who is Lord over us?
"Propter misériam ínopum et gémitum páuperum, † nunc exsúrgam, dicit Dóminus; * ponam in salutári illum, quem despíciunt."
By reason of the misery of the needy, and the groans of the poor, now will I arise, saith the Lord. I will set him in safety; I will deal confidently in his regard.
Elóquia Dómini elóquia casta, * argéntum igne examinátum, separátum a terra, purgátum séptuplum.
The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried by the fire, purged from the earth, refined seven times.
Tu, Dómine, servábis nos et custódies nos * a generatióne hac in ætérnum.
Thou, O Lord, wilt preserve us: and keep us from this generation for ever.
In circúitu ímpii ámbulant, * a cum exaltántur sordes inter fílios hóminum.
The wicked walk round about: according to thy highness, thou hast multiplied the children of men.

Cognóvi quia proptérea invenérunt me mala ista; et ecce péreo tristítia magna in terra aliéna."

In secundo nocturno, anno II)
Dicit enim in Isaía: Pópulus iste lábiis me honórat, cor autem eórum longe abest a me.
r. Tu, Dómine universórum, qui nullam habes indigéntiam, voluísti templum tuum fíeri in nobis; * Consérva domum istam immaculátam in ætérnum, Dómine. v. Qui regis Israel, inténde, qui dedúcis velut ovem Ioseph, qui sedes super chérubim. * Consérva. v. Glória Patri. * Consérva.
