Confidence of the innocent and prayer

Elegit nos Deus in Christo, ut essemus sancti et immaculati (Eph 1, 4).

God has chosen us in Christ to be holy and blameless (Eph 1:4).

Iúdica me, Dómine, † quóniam ego in innocéntia mea ingréssus sum * et in Dómino sperans non infirmábor.

Do me justice, Lord, for I have walked in my innocence, I trust in the Lord, I will not waver.

Proba me, Dómine, et tenta me; * ure renes meos et cor meum.

Test me, Lord, search me, put my loins and my heart through the crucible.

Quóniam misericórdia tua ante óculos meos est, * et ambulávi in veritáte tua.

For Thy mercy is before my eyes, and I walk in Thy truth.

Pater, gratias ago tibi quoniam audisti me (Io 11, 41).

Father, I thank You for You have listened to me (Io 11, 41).

Ad te, Dómine, clamábo; * Deus meus, ne síleas a me.

It is to Thou, Lord, that I cry; my God, do not remain deaf to my voice.

Nequándo táceas a me, * et assimilábor descendéntibus in lacum.

Lest if Thou keepest silent I will be like those who go down into the pit.

Exáudi vocem deprecatiónis meæ, dum clamo ad te, * dum extóllo manus meas ad templum sanctum tuum.

Hearken unto the voice of my supplications, when I cry out to Thou, when I lift up my hands to Thy holy sanctuary.

Ne simul trahas me cum peccatóribus * et cum operántibus iniquitátem.

Do not carry me away with the wicked and the artisans of iniquity.

Blessed be the Lord, for He hath heard the voice of my supplications; the Lord is my strength and my shield,

in Him my heart was trusted and I was helped; so my heart is glad, and I will praise Him with my songs.

The Lord is the strength of His people, He is a fortress of salvation for His messiah.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts : Behold I will save my people from the land of the east, and from the land of the going down of the sun. And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God in truth and in justice.

After this the proper prayer is said straightway and without "Let us pray", with the long conclusion.

Præsta, quǽsumus, omnípotens Deus, † ut Salvatóris mundi, stella duce, manifestáta natívitas, † méntibus nostris revelétur semper et crescat.

We pray to Thou, Almighty God, that the birth of the Saviour of the world, manifested by the Star, may be revealed to our minds and grow ever more.

The Lord be with thee.
