  Lectio I
  Léctio libri Sirácidæ (51,17-27)

Confitébor et laudem dicam tibi et benedícam nómini Dómini. Cum adhuc iúnior essem, priúsquam oberrárem, quæsívi sapiéntiam palam in oratióne mea;ante templum postulábam pro illa et usque in novíssimis inquíram eam, et efflóruit tamquam præcox uva. Lætátum est cor meum in ea, ambulávit pes meus iter rectum; a iuventúte mea investigábam eam.
I will give You thanks and praise, and I will bless the name of the Lord. When I was still young, before I went astray, I openly sought wisdom in my prayer; before the temple I called for it, and to the end I sought it, and it sprang up like an early grape. My heart rejoiced in it; my foot trod the straight path. From my youth I sought her. I inclined my ear to it and received it, and found much wisdom for myself and made great progress in it. To him who gives me wisdom, I will give glory. For I have decided to follow it; I have sought what is good, and I shall not be put to shame. My soul has wrestled with her, and I have been diligent to keep her law. I have stretched out my hands to the heights and understood her unfathomable things. I have directed my soul towards her and found her in purity.
  Verbum Dómini. r. Deo grátias.
Word of the Lord. r. Let us give thanks to God.

In illo tempore: Véniunt rursus Hierosólymam.
In that time : they come again to Jerusalem. And when he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests and the scribes and the ancients, And they say to him: By what authority dost thou these things? and who hath given thee this authority that thou shouldst do these things? And Jesus answering, said to them: I will also ask you one word, and answer you me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me. But they thought with themselves, saying: If we say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did you not believe him? If we say, From men, we fear the people. For all men counted John that he was a prophet indeed. And they answering, say to Jesus: We know not. And Jesus answering, saith to them: Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

On the maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Truly it is worthy and just, equitable and salutary, for us always and everywhere to give You thanks: Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God: through Christ, our Lord.
