Psalm 18
  Laus Domini rerum conditoris
Praise to the Lord creator of all things
The star from on high has come to visit us and guide our steps on the path of peace. (Lk 1, 78. 79).
Cæli enárrant glóriam Dei, * et ópera mánuum eíus annúntiat firmaméntum.
The heavens shew forth the glory of God, and the firmament declareth the work of his hands.
Dies diéi erúctat verbum, * et nox nocti índicat sciéntiam.
Day to day uttereth speech, and night to night sheweth knowledge.
There are no speeches nor languages, where their voices are not heard.
in omnem terram exívit sonus eórum, * et in fines orbis terræ verba eórum.
Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth: and their words unto the ends of the world.
He hath set his tabernacle in the sun: and he, as a bridegroom coming out of his bride chamber, Hath rejoiced as a giant to run the way:
A fínibus cælórum egréssio eíus, et occúrsus eíus usque ad fines eórum, * nec est quod se abscóndat a calóre eíus.
His going out is from the end of heaven, And his circuit even to the end thereof: and there is no one that can hide himself from his heat.
Lex Dómini immaculáta, refíciens ánimam, * testimónium Dómini fidéle, sapiéntiam præstans párvulis.
The law of the Lord is unspotted, converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, giving wisdom to little ones.
Iustítiæ Dómini rectæ, lætificántes corda, * præcéptum Dómini lúcidum, illúminans óculos.
The justices of the Lord are right, rejoicing hearts: the commandment of the Lord is lightsome, enlightening the eyes.
Timor Dómini mundus, pérmanens in sǽculum sǽculi; * iudícia Dómini vera, iústa ómnia simul,
The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for ever and ever: the judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves.
desiderabília super aurum et lápidem pretiósum multum, * et dulcióra super mel et favum stillántem.
More to be desired than gold and many precious stones: and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
Étenim servus tuus erudítur in eis; * in custodiéndis illis retribútio multa.
For thy servant keepeth them, and in keeping them there is a great reward.
Erróres quis intéllegit? Ab occúltis munda me * et a supérbia custódi servum tuum, ne dominétur mei,
Who can understand sins? from my secret ones cleanse me, O Lord: and from those of others spare thy servant. If they shall have no dominion over me,
Tunc immaculátus ero * et emundábor a delícto máximo.
then shall I be without spot: and I shall be cleansed from the greatest sin.
And the words of my mouth shall be such as may please: and the meditation of my heart always in thy sight.
Dómine, adiútor meus * et redémptor meus.
O Lord, my helper, and my redeemer.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

  Psalmus 63 (64)
Psalm 63 (64)
  Contra hostes oratio
Prayer against the enemy
Maxime Domini passio commendatur in hoc psalmo (S. Augustinus).
This psalm illustrates above all the Lord's Passion (S. Augustin).
Exáudi, Deus, vocem meam in meditatióne mea; * a timóre inimíci custódi ánimam meam.
Hear, O God, my prayer, when I make supplication to thee: deliver my soul from the fear of the enemy.
Prótege me a convéntu malignántium, * a multitúdine operántium iniquitátem.
Thou hast protected me from the assembly of the malignant; from the multitude of the workers of iniquity.
For they have whetted their tongues like a sword; they have bent their bow, a bitter thing,
to shoot in secret the undefiled. They will shoot at him on a sudden, and will not fear:
Disputavérunt, ut abscónderent láqueos, * dixérunt: «Quis vidébit eos?».
they are resolute in wickedness. They have talked of hiding snares; they have said: Who shall see them?
Excogitavérunt iníqua, perfecérunt excogitáta consília. * Interióra hóminis et cor eius abyssus.
They have searched after iniquities: they have failed in their search. Man shall come to a deep heart:
8 and God shall be exalted. The arrows of children are their wounds: and their tongues against them are made weak.
  Caput movébunt omnes, qui vidébunt eos, * et timébit omnis homo;
All that saw them were troubled; and every man was afraid
And they declared the works of God: and understood his doings.
Lætábitur iustus in Dómino et sperábit in eo, * et gloriabúntur omnes recti corde.
The just shall rejoice in the Lord, and shall hope in him: and all the upright in heart shall be praised.
Amen.

Psalm 96 (97)
  Gloria Domini in iudicio
Glory to God in his justice
Hic psalmus salutem mundi significat et fidem omnium gentium in ipsum (S. Athanasius).
This psalm signifies the salvation of the world and the faith of every nation in him (S. Athanasius).
Dóminus regnávit! Exsúltet terra, * læténtur ínsulæ multæ.
The Lord is king: let the earth rejoice, let the many islands rejoice.
The cloud and the shadow surround him, justice and equity are the basis of His throne.
Fire advances before Him, and devours His adversaries around him.
His lightning illuminates the world: the earth sees him and trembles.
Montes sicut cera fluxérunt a fácie Dómini, * a fácie Dómini omnis terra.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim His righteousness, and all peoples behold His glory.
They will be confounded all the worshippers of images, who are proud of their idols. All the angels bow down before Him.
Zion has heard and rejoiced, and the daughters of Judah are glad forasmuch as of Thy judgments, O Lord.
Quóniam tu Dóminus, Altíssimus super omnem terram, * nimis exaltátus es super omnes deos.
For Thou, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth, and are supremely exalted above all the gods.
Qui dilígitis Dóminum, odíte malum; custódit ipse ánimas sanctórum suórum, * de manu peccatóris liberábit eos.
Thou who love the Lord, hate evil; He guards the souls of His faithful, He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the righteous in heart.
Righteous, rejoice in the Lord, and give glory to His Holy Name.
Amen.

«Opórtet ergo ex his viris qui nobíscum congregáti erant in omni témpore quo intrávit et exívit inter nos Dóminus Iesus, incípiens a baptísmate Ioánnis usque in diem qua assúmptus est a nobis, testem resurrectiónis eius nobíscum fíeri unum ex istis. "

  In secundo nocturno, anno I)

Fiat misericórdia tua, Dómine, super nos, quemádmodum sperávimus in te.

God, who has associated Blessed Matthias with the College of the Apostles, grant us, through his intervention, rejoicing in Thy dilection, that one day we may be amongst the elect.
