Ad invitatorium
Warning: the monastic cursus is still under construction. There may still be many errors.
Amen.
Open my mouth, Lord, that it may bless Thy Holy Name, and cleanse my heart also from every vain, evil, and foreign thought. Enlighten my understanding, inflame my love, so that I may recite this office with respect, attention, and devotion, and merit to be heard in the presence of Thy divine majesty. Through Christ our Lord. r. Amen.

Psalmus 3
Psalm 3
Dominus protector meus
The Lord is my protector
Dormivit et somnum cepit et resurrexit, quoniam Dominus suscepit eum (S. Irenæus).
He lay down and fell asleep, and He rose again because the Lord sustained Him.
Dómine, quid multiplicáti sunt, qui tríbulant me? * Multi insúrgunt advérsum me,
O Lord, why are they multiplied that afflict me? * Many are they who rise up against me.
multi dicunt ánimæ meæ: * «Non est salus ipsi in Deo».
Many say to my soul: * “There is no salvation for him in his God.”
But thou, O Lord, art my protector, * my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
I have cried to the Lord with my voice, * and he hath heard me from his holy mountain.
Ego obdormívi et soporátus sum,> * exsurréxi, quia Dóminus suscépit me.
I have slept and have taken my rest, * and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.
Non timébo mília pópuli circumdántis me. * Exsúrge, Dómine, salvum me fac, Deus meus;
I will not fear thousands of the people that surround me. * Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God.
quóniam tu percussísti in maxíllam omnes adversántes mihi, * dentes peccatórum contrivísti.
For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause; * thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.
Salvation is of the Lord, * and thy blessing is upon thy people.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

Cor, arca legem cóntinens non servitútis véteris, sed grátiæ, sed véniæ, sed et misericórdiæ;
Jesus, behind Thy Temple’s veil, Hid in an ark of gold, On stones engraven, lay the Law Thy finger wrote of old.
Cor, sanctuárium novi intemerátum fœ́deris, templum vetústo sánctius velúmque scisso utílius:
But in Thy Bodys temple new, Thy life-bloods throbbing shrine, Held, upon fleshly tables graved, The law of Love Divine.
Te vulnerátum cáritas ictu paténti vóluit, amóris invisíbilis ut venerémur vúlnera.
And when that Heart in death was stilled, Each temple’s veil was riven: And lo, within Thy Love’s red shrine, To us to look was given.
There make us gaze and see the love Which drew Thee, for our sake, O great High-priest, Thyself to God A sacrifice to make.

Ant. 1. Super timéntes Dóminum misericórdia eius.
Ant. 1. On those who fear the Lord, His mercy.
Psalmus 32 (33)
Psalm 32 (33)
Laus Domini providentis
Praise the Lord in His providence
Omnia per ipsum facta sunt (Io 1, 3).
Everything is made by Him (Io 1, 3).
Exsultáte, iusti, in Dómino; * rectos decet collaudátio.
Righteous, rejoice in the Lord; To upright men befits praise.
Confitémini Dómino in cíthara, * in psaltério decem chordárum psállite illi.
Praise the Lord with the harp, sing Him on the ten-stringed lute.
Cantáte ei cánticum novum, * bene psállite ei in vociferatióne,
Sing to His glory a new song; Artfully unite thy instruments and voices.
For the word of the Lord is right, and all His works are done in faithfulness.
He loveth justice and righteousness; the earth is filled with the goodness of the Lord.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of His mouth.
Cóngregans sicut in utre aquas maris, * ponens in thesáuris abyssos.
He gathers together as in a heap the waters of the sea; He puts the waves of the abyss in reservoirs.
Tímeat Dóminum omnis terra, * a fácie autem eius formídent omnes inhabitántes orbem.
May the whole earth fear the Lord! Let all the inhabitants of the universe tremble before Him
For He said, and all things were done; He commanded, and everything existed.
Dóminus díssipat consília géntium, * írritas facit cogitatiónes populórum.
The Lord overturns the designs of the nations; It reduces to naught the thoughts of the people.
But the purposes of the Lord endure forevermore, and the thoughts of his heart in all generations.
Beáta gens, cui Dóminus est Deus, * pópulus, quem elégit in hereditátem sibi.
Blessed is the nation whose God the Lord is, blessed is the people whom He hath chosen for His inheritance!
De cælo respéxit Dóminus, * vidit omnes fílios hóminum.
From heaven the Lord looks, He seeth all the children of men;
From the place of His dwelling place, He watches all the inhabitants of the earth,
qui finxit singillátim corda eórum, * qui intéllegit ómnia ópera eórum.
He who forms the hearts of them all, who is attentive to all their actions.
It is not the number of soldiers that gives the king victory, it is not a great force that makes the warrior triumph.
The horse is powerless to procure salvation, and all its vigor does not assure deliverance.
The eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His goodness,
ut éruat a morte ánimas eórum * et alat eos in fame.
To deliver their souls from death, and to make them live in the time of famine.
Anima nostra sústinet Dóminum, * quóniam adiútor et protéctor noster est;
Our soul awaits the Lord with confidence; He is our help and our shield;
For in Him our heart rejoices, for in His holy Name we put our trust.
Fiat misericórdia tua, Dómine, super nos, * quemádmodum sperávimus in te.
Lord, may Thy grace be upon us, as we hope in Thou!
Amen.

Ant. 2. Come, sons, hearken unto Me: I will teach thou the fear of the Lord.
Psalmus 33 (34)
Psalm 33 (34)
Dominus iustorum salus
The Lord is the salvation of the righteous
Gustastis quoniam dulcis Dominus (1 Petr 2, 3).
Taste how sweet the Lord is (1 Petr 2, 3).
Benedícam Dóminum in omni témpore, * semper laus eius in ore meo.
I want to bless the Lord at all times; His praise will evermore be in my mouth.
In Dómino gloriábitur ánima mea, * áudiant mansuéti et læténtur.
In the Lord my soul will glory: let the meek hearken and rejoice
Exalt the Lord with me, together let us celebrate His name!
Exquisívi Dóminum, et exaudívit me * et ex ómnibus terróribus meis erípuit me.
I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and He delivered me from all my fears.
When one looks to Him, one is radiant with Joy, and the face is not covered with shame.
This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him from all his anguish.
Vallábit ángelus Dómini in circúitu timéntes eum * et erípiet eos.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He saves them.
Taste and behold how good the Lord is! Happy is the man who puts his refuge in himself!
Fear the Lord, thou His saints, for there is no need for those who fear Him.
The rich have been in scarcity and hunger, but those who seek the Lord lack no good.
Veníte, fílii, audíte me: * timórem Dómini docébo vos.
Come, my sons, hearken unto me, and I will teach thou the fear of the Lord.
What man is there who loves life, who desires long days to enjoy happiness?
Preserve thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from deceitful words;
Divérte a malo et fac bonum, * inquíre pacem et perséquere eam.
depart from evil and do good, seek peace, and pursue it.
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous; and his ears are attentive to their cries.
The face of the Lord is against those who do evil; to cut off their memory from the earth.
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them, and He delivers them from all their anguish.
the Lord is near unto the brokenhearted, He saves those whose spirits are cast down.
Multæ tribulatiónes iustórum, * et de ómnibus his liberábit eos Dóminus.
Many are the misfortunes of the righteous, but from all the Lord delivers him.
Custódit ómnia ossa eórum, * unum ex his non conterétur.
He keepeth all his bones, none of them will be broken.
Evil kills the wicked, and the enemies of the righteous are punished.
the Lord delivers the souls of his servants, and all who take refuge in him are not punished.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant. 3. Apud te est fons vitæ; torrénte voluptátis tuæ potábis nos, Dómine.
Ant. 3. In Thou is the fountain of life; Thou shalt give us drink, Lord, from the torrent of Thy delights.
Psalmus 35 (36)
Psalm 35 (36)
Malitia peccatoris, Domini bonitas
The malice of the wicked and the goodness of God
He who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (Jn 8:12).
The unjust hath said within himself, that he would sin: there is no fear of God before his eyes.
For in his sight he hath done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred.
The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile: he would not understand that he might do well.
He hath devised iniquity on his bed, he hath set himself on every way that is not good: but evil he hath not hated.
Dómine, in cælo misericórdia tua * et véritas tua usque ad nubes;
O Lord, thy mercy is in heaven, and thy truth reacheth even to the clouds.
iustítia tua sicut montes Dei, † iudícia tua abyssus multa: * hómines et iuménta salvábis, Dómine.
Thy justice is as the mountains of God, thy judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts thou wilt preserve, O Lord:
Quam pretiósa misericórdia tua, Deus! * Fílii autem hóminum in tégmine alárum tuárum sperábunt;
O how hast thou multiplied thy mercy, O God! But the children of men shall put their trust under the covert of thy wings.
They shall be inebriated with the plenty of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the torrent of thy pleasure.
Quóniam apud te est fons vitæ, * et in lúmine tuo vidébimus lumen.
For with thee is the fountain of life; and in thy light we shall see light.
Extend thy mercy to them that know thee, and thy justice to them that are right in heart.
Let not the foot of pride come to me, and let not the hand of the sinner move me.
There the workers of iniquity are fallen, they are cast out, and could not stand.
Amen.

Infirmi oratio
Prayer for the infirm
Unus ex vobis me tradet, qui manducat mecum (Mc 14, 18).
One of you will betray Me, the one who eats with Me (Mk 14:18).
Beátus, qui intéllegit de egéno, * in die mala liberábit eum Dóminus.
Blessed is he who cares for the poor, in the day of trouble the Lord will deliver him.
The Lord will keep him and make him live; he shall be happy on earth, and will not be given over unto the desire of his enemies.
Dóminus opem feret illi super lectum dolóris eius; * univérsum stratum eius versábis in infirmitáte eius.
The Lord will assist him on his bed of pain; Thou shalt turn all his bed over in his sickness.
Ego dixi: «Dómine, miserére mei; * sana ánimam meam, quia peccávi tibi».
I said, "Lord, have mercy on me; heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thou."
And my enemies curse me: "When will he die, when will his name perish?"
If anyone comes to visit me, he utters naught but lies; his heart gathers iniquity; when he goeth away, he speaketh outside.
Simul advérsum me susurrábant omnes inimíci mei; * advérsum me cogitábant mala mihi:
All my enemies whisper together against me, against me they meditate misfortune.
"An irremediable evil," they say, "has fallen upon him, here he lies down, he shall never rise anon."
Even the man who was my friend, who had my confidence, and who ate my bread, raises his heel against me.
Thou, Lord, have mercy on me and raise me up, and I will give them back what they deserve.
In hoc cognóvi quóniam voluísti me, * quia non gaudébit inimícus meus super me;
I will know that Thou lovest me, if my enemy does not triumph over me;
me autem propter innocéntiam suscepísti * et statuísti me in conspéctu tuo in ætérnum.
Forasmuch as of my innocence, Thou hast sustained me, and Thou hast established me forevermore in Thy presence.
Benedíctus Dóminus Deus Israel * a sǽculo et usque in sǽculum. Fiat, fiat.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, forevermore and ever. Amen, amen.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Dominus universorum rex
The Lord is king of the universe
He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and His reign will have no end.
Omnes gentes, pláudite mánibus, * iubiláte Deo in voce exsultatiónis,
All of thee, peoples, clap thy hands, praise God with shouts of joy,
quóniam Dóminus Altíssimus, terríbilis, * rex magnus super omnem terram.
for the Lord is most high, fearful, great king over all the earth.
Subiécit pópulos nobis * et gentes sub pédibus nostris.
He subjugates the peoples unto us, He puts the nations under our feet.

Ascéndit Deus in iúbilo, * et Dóminus in voce tubæ.

Psállite Deo, psállite; * psállite regi nostro, psállite.
Sing to God, sing; sing to our King, sing.
Quóniam rex omnis terræ Deus, * psállite sapiénter.
For God is king of all the earth, sing a song of praise.
Regnávit Deus super gentes, * Deus sedet super sedem sanctam suam.
God rules over the nations, He sits on His holy throne.

Psalm 84 (85)
Propinqua est salus nostra
Our salvation is near
In terram delapso Salvatore nostro, benedixit Deus terram suam (Origene).
On earth, through the descent of the Redeemer, God has showered blessing on His land (Origen).
Complacuísti tibi, Dómine, in terra tua, * convertísti captivitátem Iacob.
Thou hast been favorable to Thy country, Lord, Thou hast brought back Jacob's captives.
Remisísti iniquitátem plebis tuæ, * operuísti ómnia peccáta eórum.
Thou hast forgiven iniquity to Thy people, Thou hast covered all their sins.
Contraxísti omnem iram tuam, * revertísti a furóre indignatiónis tuæ.
Thou hast withdrawn all Thy indignation, Thou hast returned from the heat of Thy wrath.
Convérte nos, Deus, salutáris noster, * et avérte iram tuam a nobis.
Restore us, God of our salvation, put an end to Thy wrath against us.
Numquid in ætérnum irascéris nobis * aut exténdes iram tuam a generatióne in generatiónem?
Will Thou evermore be angry with us, will Thou prolong Thy wrath from generation to generation?
Nonne tu convérsus vivificábis nos, * et plebs tua lætábitur in te?
Will Thou not bring us back to life, so that Thy people may rejoice in Thou?
Osténde nobis, Dómine, misericórdiam tuam * et salutáre tuum da nobis.
Lord, let us behold Thy goodness, and grant us Thy salvation.
I want to hearken unto what the Lord God will say, for He hath words of peace for His people and for His faithful and for those who convert their hearts.
Vere prope timéntes eum salutáre ipsíus, * ut inhábitet glória in terra nostra.
Yes, His salvation is near to those who fear Him, and glory will dwell anon on our earth.
Mercy and truth met, justice and peace embraced.
Truth will spring from the earth, and righteousness will behold down from heaven.
Etenim Dóminus dabit benignitátem, * et terra nostra dabit fructum suum.
The Lord Himself will bestow all good, and our land will yield its fruit.
Iustítia ante eum ambulábit, * et ponet in via gressus suos.
Righteousness will go before Him, and will make the way for Him.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalmus 85 (86)
Psalm 85 (86)
Pauperis in rebus adversis oratio
Prayer of the poor in the face of adversity
Benedictus Deus, qui consolatur nos in omni tribulatione nostra (2 Cor 1, 3. 4).
Blessed be God, who comforts us in all our tribulations (2 Cor 1:3, 4).
Inclína, Dómine, aurem tuam et exáudi me, * quóniam inops et pauper sum ego.
Incline thy ear, O Lord, and hearken unto me, for I am needy and poor.
Custódi ánimam meam, quóniam sanctus sum; * salvum fac servum tuum, Deus meus, sperántem in te.
Guard my soul, for I am pious; save Thy servant, O my God, he puts his trust in Thou.
Have mercy on me, Lord, forasmuch as to Thou I have cried all day.
Lætífica ánimam servi tui, * quóniam ad te, Dómine, ánimam meam levávi.
Rejoice the soul of Thy servant, for to Thou, Lord, I have lifted up my soul.
Quóniam tu, Dómine, suávis et mitis * et multæ misericórdiæ ómnibus invocántibus te.
For Thou art good, O Lord, and merciful, and full of compassion for all who call upon Thou.
Auribus pércipe, Dómine, oratiónem meam * et inténde voci deprecatiónis meæ.
Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer, and hearken unto the voice of my supplications.
In die tribulatiónis meæ clamávi ad te, * quia exáudies me.
I call upon Thou in the day of my trouble, and Thou shalt hearken unto me.
No one equals Thou amongst the gods, Lord, naught resembles Thy works.
Omnes gentes, quascúmque fecísti, vénient † et adorábunt coram te, Dómine, * et glorificábunt nomen tuum,
All the nations that Thou hast made will come and worship Thou, O Lord, and give glory to Thy name,
quóniam magnus es tu et fáciens mirabília: * tu es Deus solus.
for Thou art great and Thou work wonders: Thou alone are God.
Doce me, Dómine, viam tuam, * et ingrédiar in veritáte tua;
Teach me thy ways, Lord; I want to walk in Thy faithfulness;
simplex fac cor meum, * ut tímeat nomen tuum.
make my heart simple, that it may fear Thy name.
Confitébor tibi, Dómine Deus meus, in toto corde meo * et glorificábo nomen tuum in ætérnum,
I will praise Thee with all my heart, O Lord my God, and glorify Thy name for eternity.
For Thy mercy is great unto me, Thou hast rescued my soul from the depths of hell.
O God, the proud have rebelled against me, and the assembly of the mighty has sought my soul, and they have not placed Thee before their gaze.
Et tu, Dómine, Deus miserátor et miséricors * pátiens et multæ misericórdiæ et veritátis,
But Thou, Lord, are a merciful and compassionate God, patient, of great mercy and truth.
réspice in me et miserére mei; † da fortitúdinem tuam púero tuo * et salvum fac fílium ancíllæ tuæ.
Turn thy eyes towards me and have mercy on me; give thy strength to thy servant, and save the son of thy handmaid.
Fac mecum signum in bonum, † ut vídeant, qui odérunt me, et confundántur, * quóniam tu, Dómine, adiuvísti me et consolátus es me..
Mark Thy kindness unto me, that my enemies may behold it and be confounded, for it is Thou, the Lord, who assist and comfort me.
Amen.

Psalmus 93 (94)
Psalm 93 (94)
Dominus iustorum ultor
The Lord avenges the righteous
For God has not called us to impurity, but to sanctification. (Cf. 1 Thess 4:6-7).
Deus ultiónum, Dómine, *Deus ultiónum, effúlge.
God of vengeance, the Lord, God of vengeance, appear.
Exaltáre, qui iúdicas terram, *redde retributiónem supérbis.
Arise, O judge of the earth, render unto the proud according to their works.
Usquequo peccatóres, Dómine, *úsquequo peccatóres exsultábunt?
How long will the wicked, the Lord, how long will the sinners triumph?
They pour out arrogant speeches, they glorify themselves, all these artisans of iniquity.
Pópulum tuum, Dómine, humíliant *et hereditátem tuam vexant.
Lord, they crush Thy people, they oppress Thy inheritance.
Víduam et ádvenam interfíciunt *et pupíllos occídunt.
They slaughter the widow and the stranger, they massacre the orphans.
Et dixérunt: «Non vidébit Dóminus, *nec intélleget Deus Iacob» .
And they say, "The Lord does not behold, the God of Jacob does not take heed."
Intellégite, insipiéntes in pópulo, *et, stulti, quando sapiétis?
Understand, then, stupid children of the people, fools, when will thou hast intelligence?
Would not he who planted the ear hearken, and the one who formed behold?
Would not he who chastises the nations punish, he who teaches knowledge to men?
Dóminus scit cogitatiónes hóminum *quóniam vanæ sunt.
The Lord knows the thoughts of men; He knoweth that they are vain.
Blessed is the man whom Thou instruct, O Lord, and to whom Thou teachest Thy law,
ut mítiges ei a diébus malis, *donec fodiátur peccatóri fóvea.
to appease him in the days of trouble, until such time as the pit is dug for the fisherman.
For the Lord will not reject His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.
but the judgment will anon be in conformity with justice, and all men of right hearts will applaud it.
Quis consúrget mihi advérsus malignántes, *aut quis stabit mecum advérsus operántes iniquitátem?
Who will rise up for me against the wicked, and who will sustain me against those who do iniquity?
Nisi quia Dóminus adiúvit me, *paulo minus habitásset in loco siléntii ánima mea.
If the Lord were not my help, my soul would soon dwell in the abode of silence.
Si dicébam: «Motus est pes meus» , *misericórdia tua, Dómine, sustentábat me.
When I say, "My foot is tottering," Thy goodness, the Lord, sustains me.
In multitúdine sollicitúdinum meárum in corde meo, *consolatiónes tuæ lætificavérunt ánimam meam.
When anxieties stir in crowds in my thoughts, Thy consolations rejoice my soul.
Numquid sociábitur tibi sedes iniquitátis, *quæ fingit moléstiam contra præcéptum?
Has the tribunal of perdition, which does evil in legal forms, aught in common with Thou?
Irruunt in ánimam iusti *et sánguinem innocéntem condémnant.
They hasten against the life of the just, and they condemn innocent blood.
Et factus est mihi Dóminus in præsídium *et Deus meus in rupem refúgii mei;
But the Lord is my fortress, my God is the rock where I shelter;
et reddet illis iniquitátem ipsórum, † et in malítia eórum dispérdet eos, *dispérdet illos Dóminus Deus noster.
and He shall bring down their iniquity upon them, He shall destroy them by their own malice, He shall destroy them, the Lord our God.
Amen.

They will be confounded all the worshippers of images, who are proud of their idols. All the angels bow down before Him.
Zion has heard and rejoiced, and the daughters of Judah are glad forasmuch as of Thy judgments, O Lord.
Quóniam tu Dóminus, Altíssimus super omnem terram, * nimis exaltátus es super omnes deos.
For Thou, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth, and are supremely exalted above all the gods.
Qui dilígitis Dóminum, odíte malum; † custódit ipse ánimas sanctórum suórum, * de manu peccatóris liberábit eos.

Lectio I
r. Gratificávit nos Deus in dilécto Fílio suo, * In quo habémus redemptiónem per sánguinem eius, remissiónem peccatórum. v. Det nobis Dóminus illuminátos óculos cordis nostri in agnitióne eius. * In quo.
Lectio III

Rejoice, shout for joy, inhabitants of Zion, for he is great in thy midst, the Holy One of Israel."
Amen.
Canticum (1 Sam 2, 1-5)
Song (1 Sam 2, 1-5)
Humilium exsultatio in Deo
Exultation of the humble in God
He has deposed the mighty from their thrones, exalted the lowly and filled the hungry with good things (Lk 1:52-53).
Exsultávit cor meum in Dómino, * exaltátum est cornu meum in Deo meo;
My heart rejoices for the Lord's sake; my brow has been raised thanks to my God;
dilatátum est os meum super inimícos meos, * quóniam lætáta sum in salutári tuo.
In the face of my enemies, my mouth is opened: yes, I rejoice in Thy victory!
There is no Saint like the Lord. No God but Thou!- No Rock like our God!
Nolíte multiplicáre loqui sublímia gloriántes. * Recédant supérba de ore vestro,
Enough of haughty words. No insolence in the mouth,
for the Lord is the God who knows, who weighs our deeds.
The bow of the strong will be broken, but the weak will be clothed in vigour.
The most fulfilled are hired for bread, and the hungry rest.
Stérilis péperit plúrimos, * et, quæ multos habébat fílios, emárcuit.
When the barren woman gives birth seven times, the woman with many sons withers.
Amen.
Canticum (1 Sam 2, 6-10)
Song (1 Sam 2:6-10)
The Lord causes death and life, He causes us to descend into the abyss and brings us back anon.
Dóminus páuperem facit et ditat, * humíliat et súblevat;
The Lord makes poor and rich; He lowers and He lifts up.
From the dust He lifts up the weak, He bringeth the poor out of the ashes,
that he may sit amongst princes and receive a throne of glory.
Unto the Lord, the pillars of the earth, on them He hath placed the world.
Pedes sanctórum suórum servábit, † et ímpii in ténebris conticéscent, * quia non in fortitúdine sua roborábitur vir.
He watches over the footsteps of His faithful, and the wicked will perish in darkness. Strength does not make man victorious:
Dóminus cónteret adversários suos; * super ipsos in cælis tonábit.
the adversaries of the Lord will be broken. The Most High will thunder in the heavens;
Dóminus iudicábit fines terræ † et dabit impérium regi suo * et sublimábit cornu christi sui.
The Lord will judge the whole earth and give power to His king, he shall raise up the brow of His messiah.
Amen.
Ant. Ecce Deus Salvátor meus; fiduciáliter agam, quia factus est mihi in salútem.
Ant. God is my savior; I trust Him forasmuch as He hath made Himself my salvation.
v. In caritáte perpétua diléxi te. r. Ideo attráxi te míserans.
Postea benedicat abbas:
Then the abbot blessed:
Ignem sui amóris accéndat Deus in córdibus nostris. r. Amen.
May the Lord kindle in our hearts the fire of His love. r. Amen.

Léctio sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthæum
In illo témpore: Respóndens Iesus dixit: " Confíteor tibi Pater, Dómine cæli et terræ, quia abscondísti hæc a sapiéntibus et prudéntibus, et revelásti ea párvulis. " Et réliqua.
Ex Homilíis sancti Ioánnis Chrysóstomi epíscopi in Matthæum (Hom. 33: PG 57, 430-431)
Lectio I
* Iudicásti causam meam, et liberásti me, Deus meus. v. In die tribulatiónis meæ clamávi ad te, quia exaudísti me. * Iudicásti.
Lectio III
r. Sicut diléxit me Pater, et ego diléxi vos; * Manéte in dilectióne mea. v.
Me réspice et mea ómnia a me díscito, et tunc clare scies quantum sit bonum.
r. Simus ergo imitatóres Dei * Et ambulémus in dilectióne. v.

Te per orbem terrárum sancta confitétur Ecclésia, Patrem imménsæ maiestátis;
venerandum tuum verum et unicum Filium;
Fiat misericórdia tua, Dómine, super nos, quemádmodum sperávimus in te.
In te, Dómine, sperávi: non confúndar in ætérnum.
¶ Hæc ultima pars hymni ad libitum omitti potest.
Deinde abbas cantat evangelium de dominica currente, in cuius fine omnes respondent :
Then the abbot sang the Gospel [of Sunday] current, to which all respond at the end with:
r. Amen
