  Legitur in lingua vernacula. (Quando legitur textus cuius authentica lingua est gallica, non proponitur interpretatio latina.)
  Quand on est conduit par un Dieu de force et de lumière, on ne peut pas se tromper. L'Esprit Saint est une lumière et une force. C'est lui qui nous fait distinguer le vrai du faux et le bien du mal. Comme ces lunettes qui grossissent les objets, le Saint-Esprit nous fait voir le bien et le mal, "en grand". Avec le Saint-Esprit, on voit tout "en grand": on voit la grandeur des moindres actions faites pour Dieu, et la grandeur des moindres fautes.
  
  Sans le Saint-Esprit, nous sommes comme une pierre du chemin. Prenez dans une main une éponge imbibée d'eau, et dans l'autre un petit caillou ; pressez-les également ; il ne sortira rien du caillou, et de l'éponge vous ferez sortir l'eau en abondance. L'éponge, c'est l'âme remplie du Saint-Esprit, et le caillou, c'est le cœur froid et dur où le Saint-Esprit n'habite pas. C'est le Saint-Esprit qui forme les pensées dans le cœur des justes et qui engendre les paroles dans leur bouche. Ceux qui ont le Saint-Esprit ne produisent rien de mauvais ; tous les fruits du Saint-Esprit sont bons. Quand on a le Saint-Esprit, le cœur se dilate, se baigne dans l'amour divin.
  
  Les sacrements que notre Seigneur a institués ne nous auraient pas sauvés sans le Saint-Esprit. La mort même de notre Seigneur nous aurait été inutile sans lui. C'est pourquoi notre Seigneur a dit à ses apôtres : Il vous est utile que je m'en aille, car si je ne m'en allais pas, le Consolateur ne viendrait pas. Il fallait que la descente du Saint-Esprit vînt faire fructifier cette moisson de grâces. C'est comme pour un grain de blé ; vous le jetez en terre : bon! Mais il faut le soleil et la pluie pour le faire lever et monter en épi. Il faudrait dire chaque matin : "Mon Dieu, envoyez-moi votre Esprit qui me fasse connaître ce que je suis et ce que vous êtes."
