Open my mouth, Lord, that it may bless Thy Holy Name, and cleanse my heart also from every vain, evil, and foreign thought. Enlighten my understanding, inflame my love, so that I may recite this office with respect, attention, and devotion, and merit to be heard in the presence of Thy divine majesty. The Lord is my protector

He lay down and fell asleep, and He rose again because the Lord sustained Him.

Dómine, quid multiplicáti sunt, qui tríbulant me? * Multi insúrgunt advérsum me,

O Lord, why are they multiplied that afflict me? * Many are they who rise up against me.

Many say to my soul: * “There is no salvation for him in his God.”

You are seated above the Cherubim, You who renewed the state of the earth plunged in evil, by taking on our likeness (S. Athanasius).

Dóminus regnávit! Commoveántur pópuli; * sedet super chérubim, moveátur terra.

The Lord reigns! The people tremble; He is seated on the Cherubim; the earth is tottering.

The program of a just prince

I want to sing of goodness and justice; it is Thou, the Lord, whom I want to celebrate.

I will beware of the path of innocence. When will Thou come unto me?

I will walk in the integrity of my heart, in the midst of my house.
