  SABBATO SANCTO
MAUNDY SATURDAY
  1. Sabbato sancto Ecclesia ad sepulcrum Domini immoratur, passionem eius et mortem, necnon ad inferos descensum meditans et eius resurrectionem exspectans, in oratione et ieiunio.
1. On Holy Saturday, the Church dwells by the tomb of the Lord, meditating on His passion and death, His descent into hell, and awaiting His resurrection in prayer and fasting.
  2. A sacrificio Missæ, sacra mensa denudata, Ecclesia abstinet, usque dum, post sollemnem Vigiliam seu nocturnam resurrectionis exspectationem, locus detur gaudiis paschalibus, quorum abundantia in quinquaginta dies exundat.
2. The Church abstains from the sacrifice of the Mass, thus leaving the altar bare until such time as, after the solemn vigil or the nocturnal expectation of the resurrection, the joys of Easter are inaugurated, the exuberance of which will flood the fifty days of Easter.
  3. Sacra Communio hac die dari potest solummodo ad modum viatici.
3. On this day, Holy Communion cannot be distributed, except as a viaticum.
The translations proposed here have the sole purpose of a better understanding of the Latin text. They are not to be used in place of the official translations in the liturgy in the vernacular.
