Hic est dies verus Dei, sancto serénus lúmine, quo díluit sanguis sacer probrósa mundi crímina.
This truly is the day of God; His holy light shines bright today, When by his sacred blood, once shed, He washed the sins of men away.
Fidem refúndit pérditis cæcósque visu illúminat; quem non gravi solvit metu latrónis absolútio?
Bestowing faith upon the lost, Unto the blind he grants new sight; Has not his pardon of the thief Put all our mortal dread to flight?
Opus stupent et ángeli, pœnam vidéntes córporis Christóque adhæréntem reum vitam beátam cárpere.
The angels marvel at the sight: Though lowly and oppressed by strife, A guilty man may cling to Christ And thus attain the blessed life.
Mystérium mirábile, ut ábluat mundi luem, peccáta tollat ómnium carnis vítia mundans caro,
O wondrous mystery of grace! The sick are brought to health again; He takes away the sins of all, The crimes of flesh by flesh made clean.
Quid hoc potest sublímius, ut culpa quærat grátiam, metúmque solvat cáritas reddátque mors vitam novam?
What, then, could be more grand than this: That fault should lead to fuller grace, That charity should loose all fear, And death to life should cede its place?
Lord Jesus, grant unto our souls Eternal paschal joy, we pray, And grant a share in victory To those reborn by grace today.
Amen.
All glory, Jesus, be to you, The conqueror whom we adore, The Father and the Spirit blest Who reign with you for evermore.

Gratiarum actio
Thanksgiving
Beati pauperes, quia vestrum est regnum Dei. (Lc 6, 20)
Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
I
I
Ut quid, Dómine, stas a longe, * abscóndis te in opportunitátibus, in tribulatióne?
Why, O Lord, hast thou retired afar off? why dost thou slight us in our wants, in the time of trouble?
Dum supérbit, ímpius inséquitur páuperem; * comprehendántur in consíliis, quæ cógitant.
Whilst the wicked man is proud, the poor is set on fire: they are caught in the counsels which they devise.
Quóniam gloriátur peccátor in desidériis ánimæ suæ, * et avárus sibi benedícit.
For the sinner is praised in the desires of his soul: and the unjust man is blessed.
The sinner hath provoked the Lord, according to the multitude of his wrath he will not seek him:
God is not before his eyes: his ways are filthy at all times.
Excélsa nimis iudícia tua a fácie eius; * omnes inimícos suos aspernátur.
Thy judgments are removed from his sight: he shall rule over all his enemies.
Dixit enim in corde suo: « Non movébor, * in generatiónem et generatiónem ero sine malo ».
For he hath said in his heart: I shall not be moved from generation to generation, and shall be without evil.
His mouth is full of cursing, and of bitterness, and of deceit: under his tongue are labour and sorrow.
Sedet in insídiis ad vicos, * in occúltis intérficit innocéntem.
He sitteth in ambush with the rich in private places, that he may kill the innocent.
Oculi eius in páuperem respíciunt. * Insidiátur in abscóndito quasi leo in spelúnca sua.
His eyes are upon the poor man: he lieth in wait in secret like a lion in his den.
Insidiátur, ut rápiat páuperem; * rapit páuperem, dum áttrahit in láqueum suum.
He lieth in ambush that he may catch the poor man: to catch the poor, whilst he draweth him to him.
In his net he will bring him down, he will crouch and fall, when he shall have power over the poor.
For he hath said in his heart: God hath forgotten, he hath turned away his face, not to see to the end.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, and ever shall be. Amen.

Exsúrge, Dómine Deus; exálta manum tuam, * ne obliviscáris páuperum.
Arise, O Lord God, let thy hand be exalted: forget not the poor.
Propter quid spernit ímpius Deum? * Dixit enim in corde suo: "Non requíres".
Wherefore hath the wicked provoked God? for he hath said in his heart: He will not require it.
Thou seest it, for thou considerest labour and sorrow: that thou mayst deliver them into thy hands.
Tibi derelíctus est pauper, * órphano tu factus es adiútor.
To thee is the poor man left: thou wilt be a helper to the orphan.
Break thou the arm of the sinner and of the malignant: his sin shall be sought, and shall not be found.
Dóminus rex in ætérnum et in sǽculum sǽculi: * periérunt gentes de terra illíus.
The Lord shall reign to eternity, yea, for ever and ever: ye Gentiles shall perish from his land.
Desidérium páuperum exaudísti, Dómine; * confirmábis cor eórum, inténdes aurem tuam
The Lord hath heard the desire of the poor: thy ear hath heard the preparation of their heart.
To judge for the fatherless and for the humble, that man may no more presume to magnify himself upon earth.
Amen.

Invocatio contra superbos
Invocation against the superb
Propter nos pauperes Pater Filium dignatus est mittere. (S. Augustinus)
For us poor, the Father deigned to send His Son (S. Augustine)
Salvum me fac, Dómine, quóniam defécit sanctus, * quóniam deminúti sunt fidéles a fíliis hóminum.
Save me, O Lord, for there is now no saint: truths are decayed from among the children of men.
They have spoken vain things every one to his neighbour: with deceitful lips, and with a double heart have they spoken.
Dispérdat Dóminus univérsa lábia dolósa * et linguam magníloquam.
May the Lord destroy all deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things.
Who have said: We will magnify our tongue; our lips are our own; who is Lord over us?
"Propter misériam ínopum et gémitum páuperum, † nunc exsúrgam, dicit Dóminus; * ponam in salutári illum, quem despíciunt."
By reason of the misery of the needy, and the groans of the poor, now will I arise, saith the Lord. I will set him in safety; I will deal confidently in his regard.
Elóquia Dómini elóquia casta, * argéntum igne examinátum, separátum a terra, purgátum séptuplum.
The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried by the fire, purged from the earth, refined seven times.
Tu, Dómine, servábis nos et custódies nos * a generatióne hac in ætérnum.
Thou, O Lord, wilt preserve us: and keep us from this generation for ever.
In circúitu ímpii ámbulant, * a cum exaltántur sordes inter fílios hóminum.
The wicked walk round about: according to thy highness, thou hast multiplied the children of men.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Vidére erat spectáculum duplex: Christo crucifíxo, dies ténebris obducebátur; eóque resurgénte, nox illuminabátur in morem diéi.
O nox die clárior! O nox sole splendídior! O nox nive candídior! O nox fácibus lucídior! O nox paradíso delectabílior! O nox a ténebris líbera! O nox quæ somnum pellis! O nox quæ vigiláre cum ángelis doces! O nox terríbilis dæmónibus! O nox desidérium anni! O nox prónuba Ecclésiæ! O nox recens baptísmo illuminatórum mater! O nox in qua dormítans diábolus nudátus est! O nox in qua heres in hereditátem introdúxit herédem!
In secundo nocturno Act 4, 10-11

Orémus.
Deus, qui paschália nobis remédia contulísti, pópulum tuum cælésti dono proséquere, ut, perféctam libertátem assecútus, in cælis gáudeat unde nunc in terris exsúltat. Per Dóminum.
O God, who in the Passover Solemnity gave us the remedy [we needed], continue to pour out Thy heavenly gift upon Thy people, so that, having attained perfect freedom, they may rejoice in heaven, He who already now rejoices on earth.
