Si cognovisses et tu... quæ ad pacem tibi! (Lc 19, 42).

If you too had known what was for (your) peace (Lk 19:42).

Deus, venérunt gentes in hereditátem tuam, † polluérunt templum sanctum tuum, * posuérunt Ierúsalem in ruínas.

O God, the nations have attacked Thy inheritance, they have desecrated Thy holy temple, they have made Jerusalem a heap of ruins.

Dedérunt morticína servórum tuórum escas volatílibus cæli, * carnes sanctórum tuórum béstiis terræ.

They have given the corpses of Thy servants unto the fowls of the air, and the flesh of Thy faithful unto the beasts of the earth.

Effudérunt sánguinem eórum tamquam aquam in circúitu Ierúsalem, * et non erat qui sepelíret.

They shed their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and no one to bury them!

Te, Dómine, supplíciter exorámus, ut qui hora tértia Spíritum Sanctum orántibus Apóstolis tribuísti, nobis eiúsdem grátiæ participatiónem concédas benígnus. Per Christum.

We pray to Thou, begging: Thou who at the third hour granted the Holy Spirit unto the Apostles in prayer, grant us in Thy benevolence to live by the same grace.
