The Benefits of Fasting
Vere dignum et iustum est, æquum et salutáre, nos tibi semper et ubíque grátias ágere: Dómine, sancte Pater, omnípotens ætérne Deus:
Verily, it is worthy and just, equitable and salutary, for us, evermore and everywhere to give thee thanks: Eternal and Almighty God :
Qui corporáli ieiúnio vítia cómprimis, mentem élevas, virtútem largíris et prǽmia: per Christum Dóminum nostrum.
Thou who, through physical fasting, curb vices, elevate the soul, and grant strength and reward: through Christ our Lord.
Per quem maiestátem tuam laudant Angeli, adórant Dominatiónes, tremunt Potestátes. Cæli cælorúmque Virtútes, ac beáta Séraphim, sócia exsultatióne concélebrant.
Through Him, the Angels praise Thy majesty; the Dominations adore Thou; the Powers bow down in awe. The Heavens, the Virtues of the heavens, and the blessed Seraphim celebrate Thou, united in the same joy.
Cum quibus et nostras voces ut admítti iúbeas, deprecámur, súpplici confessióne dicéntes:
We ask Thou to kindly accept our voices along with theirs, as we say in a supplicating confession:
